Tractor
ford 1700 diesel
Hi all,

Borrowed a Ford 1700 diesel tractor from my elderly uncle. Started great the first time, but now since shutting it off I can't start it again. Has fuel, haven't run it anywhere near dry. I was told about a glow plug has to come on then go off before starting. Seems the minute I start cranking the light goes off and doesn't come back for hours. Any suggestions? Strawberries are coming today and need to till one more time before planting. Thanks in advance for any suggestions

does it turn off with a key? or do you pull a cut off lever?

I have a Ford 1600 that started hard. Your tractor probably needs new glow plugs. I changed mine and now it starts mint. Also, the throttle lever should be all the way forward. As soon as it starts, very quickly bring the lever to 1,000 - 1,200 rpm.

Do you need to turn the key to the LEFT and hold it for a minute before turning it to the right to start it. That is how our 1900 worked. On ours, the glow plugs were only on while the key is held in the left position.
