New Holland TC35A (2005)
I have a 2005 new holland tc35a that I bought used last year. From day 1 I have had starting problems. With all safety switches set (or even by-passed) when I turn the key I hear a click and it won't turn over. If I repeatedly turn the ignition switch 10+ times it will all of a suddent engage the starter and start right up. At other times (total randam but rare) it will start on the first turn of the key.

What is the problem? Do I need a new ignition switch?
It has a brand new started and coil.
Please help.
Thank you all kindly.

I've had this problem forever with my 2000 TC45D
After all of my research I still haven't come to a conclusive answer, it definitely happens less in the winter and more in the summer.

My battery cables look fine, but I'm going to swap in some new battery cables. That's my next step at least... I've been thru a lot of different troubleshooting steps already...

To me a click but no crank would be a starting relay or a starter solenoid.

That was my first thought. However, the dealer I bought it from tested the brand new started and soleniod and said they were in working order.
Could there be some relay or even the ignition switch that could cause the voltage to the soleniod to be too low?
The click may be (?) the soleniod attempting to engage but just doesn't have the power?????
I don't know!
I live 30 mile from the dealer and they want a $100 bill just to drive out to my house. I do not own a trailer big enogh to haul it into town either.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can test? Warning.... I am electrally ignorant (Big League)...

Does this look like your starter;

If so I'll assume the battery lead fastens to the large stud that is visible, with a small wire and connector to the black connector.
The black connector should be from your switch or a starting relay to energize the solenoid.
The solinoid is the back portion that the wires attach to.

Do you have a test light, if so with the test light going to the smaller terminal does it glow brightly with the key turned to the start position.
If it doesn't glow good and bright your not getting power to the solenoid. If it does your starter should crank the engine.

If it doesn't crank but the light is on brightly,
the repeat the test with the test light on the large terminal it should be on bright immediately, try to start and see if it dims.
It should dim and the engine should crank.
No light bad battery cable, light doesn't dim likely a bad solenoid, if it dims with no crank a bad starter.

Could be the ignition switch itself too and those safety switches.

LouNY,
I'll try your suggestion this weekend. I bought a test light (9v to 12v) this morning.
Ill let you know what happens. I just wanted to try everything I could before I drop $$$ on an ignition switch.
However, I get this "feeling" that it's going to be the ignition switch.

Does anyone know it this tractor has a starter relay and if so, where would it be located? (I'm thinking under the instrument panal????
Thank you all for your kindness and help.

1 - Get a manual. First thing I did on my old Kubota, and my current NH TC40D. Check Messicks, or Ebay
2 - Double check all your connections in the starting circuit. Make sure they're clean and tight.

I had the safety switch on the range shifter get out of whack on the TC40; barely bump it and the tractor would not start. . Only other issue was mice got under the dash, nested, and ate some wires.

Really have'nt had much issues on my TC40D.

One thing to consider on battery cables, is you might not be able to see corrosion under the insulation. On my old Kubota, I had slow starter issues. I cleaned terminals, charged battery etc. When I finally changed battery cables, it turned over great. Post Mortem, I cut open the insulation on the cables; there was a bunch of corrosion I couldn't originally see.
