Still looking - B7400? Opinions?

I couldn't find that model number on the Kubota site or tractor house. I'm guessing it is a slightly different. Sorry, don't have any direct experience with them, but if its in good shape, go for it.

Could it be Gray Market?

Does anything think the power steering will make a big difference? Haven't driven one without it yet.... The 7400 is a 16hp.

I used to have a B7300 w/FEL and no P/S. I never found it to be a problem but no doubt it is harder to turn than one with it. The B7300 was basically identical to the one you are looking at and it was really a great little tractor. Surprisingly powerful for only 16hp. I sold it about 4-5 years ago (400 hrs, equipped just like the one your looking at except with a brush hog instead of finish mower) for $8500. So I would say the price sounds good... and of course you can always offer less and see what happens.

If this is in as good of condition as indicated with only 60+ hours, and is priced at half the cost of a new one, I would jump all over it. I just went through a pretty through search for a used tractor (north Texas area) and a good, well kept tractor, depending on the year, will generally sell at about 66% to 75% of a new one. The key is the tractor's condition. If this one is really good, then I agree with BigD23, get your trailer and check and go after it!

I did drive it and it is in really good shape. I would have bought it then, but thought about it and there are two draw-backs. 1-it has turf's and I would need R4's, and 2-no power steering. I ran it, got a load of dirt and tried moving. It's not impossible, but it's difficult to turn without power steering and if I'm going to do a lot of FEL work, and knowing me, I'd get very frustrated and want to shoot the tractor!!

I'm keeping my eyes open for a good deal on a used B series with power steering... may be waiting a while though....

Smart move. As I stated earlier in this thread, while this is a good deal, there are similar deals out there on similar tractors that do have power steering.

I wouldn't discount the turf for dirt work. They work quite well in dirt, and are also in snow. I had turfs on my B7100, and have R4's on my B7610 (which is what it came with). I'm actually keeping an eye out for a set of turfs, as my use requires driving across finished lawn, and I'd like to keep it that way. That said, the R4's aren't bad, so long as I give the lawn a few days to really dry after any hard rain.

Just be persistent with your search, you'll get a good deal. Also, if you miss a good deal, don't be dismayed, no deal is the last good deal. I missed on two really good deals, but ultimately got an even better deal on a newer tractor with less hours.

Good luck with your search. If you were closer to PA, I'd help look, as I enjoy the hunt!

Regards,
Jay

Thanks Jay - I'm in Northwest Arkansas. Found a B2920 2 hours N of KC, which would be a total of 5 hours from here, but is about $4,000 less then new retail. Waiting to hear back from them on information. I check Craigslist almost every day - only real way for me to look...

What's really crazy is that the local dealer quoted me a B2920 (new), R4 tires, hydro, 4wd, fel for around $18,500, which is what is on Kubota's site. I called a place in Tulsa today and they quoted $16,500 for the same set up!!

I'm glad I've waited, I'm come to the conclusion that I'm going to get a B with an FEL and possibly down the road add on a MMM. Going to keep my eyes open for a good deal on a box blade soon after buying also. I've been back and forth on BX vs B and what implements, but have finally narrowed it down.

Only thing that is up in the air is 2320, 2620, or 2920... leaning toward the 2920 if I buy new or can find a deal since it's about the same size as the 2320, but more umph for heavier work. Of course the 7510, 7610, etc. are on the table if I'm able to find a good deal. Any one around these in the B series would be great if it was a deal...

Tommy,
Regarding the B2320, B2620, and B2920, it is my understanding that the only difference between the B2620 and the B2920 is 3 engine HP, and 2 PTO HP. The B2320 is tthen another 3 engine HP, and 2 PTO HP less than the B2620, and also has smaller tires.

HP ratings for the B2x20 models:
B2320 23/17.4
B2620 26/19.4
B2920 29/21.6

There are two different FEL's available on these models, the LA364, and LA304 (with the LA364 able to lift 180lbs more at the pivot pin, and 4.5" higher).

Now, all that said, if you aren't going to be running a bush hog, or other HP-hungry attachment off the PTO, then the B2320 should meet your needs (at a lower fuel usage) as well as the B2620 or B2920 (or if you need/want the larger tires of the B2620, it will serve you as well as the B2920). I would certainly think that if buying new, that the B2920 is not going to be worth the extra money for your needs. Since you were considering a 16HP/12.5PTO HP machine, I'm sure any of them will serve you well. I know in my case, a B7510 would serve my needs every bit as well as my B7610 (the same 3HP/2 PTO HP difference), but the B7610 was what I found a good deal on. Once thing that does serve me better, is the strong FEL (most B7510s were sold with the LA302, and B7610's with the LA352). This is probably also the case with the three B2x020 models. I don't know if the LA364 is even available on the B2320, but if you go used, you probably need to go with a B2620 or B2920 to get it. In any case, it may come down to what deal you find.

BTW, check out crazedlist.org : search craigslist like a madman to help you with your search. It can do the same search on multiple criagslist locations at the same time. This was an invaluable tool for me in my search.

When you do find that good deal, and buy it, we want to see pictures!

Jay

I would say Jas67 had summed it up pretty well. If you don't need the extra PTO power REGULARLY(!!!!) then why pay the extra $ for something you may not use. I have a B7510 and do run a PTO chipper, snowblower and have a mower deck. Would it be nice to have another 2-4 ponies at the pto? Yes. But! For the few times I could have used the extra hp it would not be worth it. The loader strength will come in play if you have a lot of heavy things such as rocks to lift. Otherwise the bucket size is very close on the models you are considering. My loader use is mostly dirt, gravel and compost. I can fill the bucket heaping with rocks and no problem lifting it and do that for hours. Would I LIKE a more powerful machine? Yes. Would I NEED a more powerful machine? No. Besides, you will have no problem spending that extra money on implements. If you go for new, I would suggest, that get the model that you can get the best deal on. Compared to the 7400 the 2320/2620/7510/7610 will be a step or three up. This - of course - is my personal opinion. Good luck and have fun.

Thanks guys, I guess the reason I'm leaning toward the 2920 is for "future potential" use... Plans in the future would require more than what I would use it for today and I plan to buy something that will last me much, much later on into the future. I'm one of those guys who try's to buy a step up or better and make it last until either it dies or I do... :)

I'm still using my TV I bought in 1990, well, actually, that's not true, I just bought a new one and it's night and day... but I digress....

I'll be using a brush-hog (not heavy today, but will use it and plan to use later in the future), lifting rocks, digging (scraping/digging), stump yanking, log pulling, box blade work, and hopefully in the future - I'll be tilling, more mower work (either mmm or rear finishing, post hole digging, etc)

Honestly, I haven't even sat on a 2920. I'm thinking, if I go new, it's going to be between the 2320 and the 2920 because the 2620 is just in between and doesn't offer more for the extra money. The larger tires may help with stability and lifting or pushing/pulling??

GREAT find on the multiple looking up on Craigslist, it gets kind of knumbing to go back and forth city by city...
