Storage: Dry Van vs shipping container

Willl, that last set of pictures sure shows how things get packed in. The picture of the passageway along the end of the containers looks very familiar. The only difference to the ones in the US Navy would be watertight doors on each opening. Heck, even the lights in the passageway look the same.;)

One thing caught me by surprise. In the third picture, the door levers (dogs?) on the container door point to the left when closed. On my container, they go to the right when closed. I had assumed that all containers go to the right.

I've got a 20 foot sea container I bought 7 years ago, paid $2200. they had cheaper ones but I picked one that looked brand new.
The 40 footers were the same price, seems most people want the 20's

I like mine, very solid and secure, it does condensate a bit and does get hot.

Depends on the door... the door in the picure is the left door, the right door would open to the right

When we needed a "barn" I went looking for a 20/40 foot shipping container. Simply could not find one to buy. Rent yes. Buy no. We ended up with a 24 foot long 8 foot wide 8/9 foot tall box from the back of a UHAUL type of truck. It works real well. Nice roll up door. Fiberglass roof to let in the light and hardwood floor.

I had to to build up a space with ABC gravel held back with retaining wall block. The box is just sitting on the gravel. Works well. We paid $2500 delivered. More than I wanted to spend but its fairly secure and we had to have something NOW.

It ain't pretty but it works. :D

Later,
Dan

Well, of course it is! DOH!:eek::eek:

I walked up to my container yesterday morning after posting this. One look and I realized the blooper I had made. Right then, I realized I was showing my "senior moments" on TBN.:D I guess I get so used to opening the right door only that I just forgot the left door handles went the other way.

Had a little trouble getting the 20 foot high cube up the hill. But once in place fits my B2710 with rigid ROPS with room to spare for implements. Be sure to order it with a lock box.
