Oil & Fuel Storing diesel fuel

 / Storing diesel fuel #11
Hi Bob,

I have a similar sized Kubota used for about the same things, mostly weekend warrior work, and I use maybe five gallons of fuel on a busy week. I have a five gallon container for fuel. I try to top off the tractor fuel tank when I get under the 3/4 full mark. As soon as the fuel container gets less than 1/4 full I throw it in the truck and fill it the next time I go by the gas station.

This way I always have fresh fuel and I am fairly confident that I get fuel blended for the season. As a precaution I add Power Service fuel conditioner to my container every time I fill it. I think you will find that the tractor is pretty stingy in the fuel consumption area. I would rather make an extra trip to the gas station than have to deal with stale fuel.

...The only concensus I seem to have found is that it isn't worth the small savings to use "off-road" fuel, as is tends to clog up the engine more....

Mike,

Those numbers that Bob did are correct{for that particular Yanmar engine} under "working" the tractor max'ed out going full bore, doing the toughest of tough jobs... but in the real world...

{averages now...don't shoot me if I'm off a gram or two.../w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif} Diesel fuel usage for Compact tractors ~under 30 engine hp ~ between .35 - .50 gal/hr for average tasks {like mowing grass... not brush hogging Sequoia's}

So my quick math did 20 hours of tractor usage for a 10 gallon tank, and average of 100 hours of usage annually for the homeowner... gave me my guesstimate figures...

So Mike...Go Figure... /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

...He wasn't sure about the refinement of the fuel being the same. He thought the tractor fuel would be more refined...

Wasn't 2d a character on the old TV show 'Facts of Life'? /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif No, 2d Fields was a comedienne who used to appear on the old Merv Griffin show. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif
