The FIL was a WWII Marine in the south pacific at places now in the history books. The use, mention, or reference to Spam was strictly forbidden in his household. The spouse has never had it and, after growing up in his house, will not try it. Spam was a staple on all my Boy Scout camping trips as it could be cooked or eaten cold and preservation/refrigeration was not a concern.

Can any of you Canadian members tell me if there is a similar product to “Spam” called “Click”, or something close to that up your way? About forty years ago I worked at a summer camp in Ontario province where we did a lot of long canoe trips. The standard lunch on the trips was “Click” (canned meat), cheese, chocolate drops and raisins. We ended up with a lot of creative ways to fix up those ingredients and now that I think back some of them sound pretty disgusting.

May just have to pick me up a can of Spam and see what kind of memories it brings back.

NSBound, thanks for the info, it is always reassuring to me when my mind pulls something up from that long ago. Now if I can just remember where I put the car keys yesterday. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
