Friend of mine did a retap on his front brakes when he stripped them out in that old 50's Willys wagon. They would leak a bit and he would add some brake fluid and give the bleeders a slight turn. This went on for sometime and one day he had to hit the brakes HARD to avoid a wreck when a guy ran a light. One of the bleeders popped out completely the other almost did, he was able to steer around the red light runner but he had no brakes. The E brake saved him and he called me to help him get back home.No reason not to try a re-tap at the same size. I've had this work on a number of occasions including stripped out brake bleeders (on cars).
Take away: I would not retap a mission critical component that in the event of fail it can lead to catastrophic results, brake bleeders, oil drain plugs. for example. This is just the engineer in me that was taught many years ago PFA, Point of Failure Analysis.
