Stroage Building

Hard to tell from your photo, but it looks like your joists are on hangers on a single 2x12 that's spanning your posts. What is your post spacing? I'd consider this inadequate.

<snip> Found a web site that you can print the plans for the gambrel truss from. I am in an area that other than new service for power company or septic doesn't require an inspection. But it will be built right.
Could you give the link please?
I'm about to build a 20x12.

Not much progress since last post. A few more blocks in. My time has been occupied by a wet spring and the farm. I am hoping to get back to it soon.

Thought I'd give an update. Half the trusses are built. I really wish I had endless days to spend on this but I just get a day here and there. I wasn't planning on it taking so long.

A little description of trusses. Each side of the gambrel truss is 6'61/2" long side with a 22.5* miter. This will allow for them to be notched for installation. 12 x 24 gussets at each joint.

Another minor update. All trusses are built. Have been for about 3 weeks. Was hoping for them to be installed by now.

Well some more progress. Managed to get the second floor sheeted. 5/8 inch plywood. Now I have to go get some lumber to put plate on and then purlins. Weather is supposed to be really hot next couple of days so may wait till later in week to do anymore.

How hot is it there? Here in East Texas, I'm about done for by 3 in the afternoon with the heat and humidity.

Don't know how you Texans do it. I am leaving the 100deg heat of Houston to get back home to Seattle where it is a comfortable 85deg! Yeah... Seattle is having a heatwave of a summer this year!

We've been running in the 95-98* range for highs. Dew points in low 80's. So that puts heat indexes above 115.
I know what you mean. We've been quitting between 1&3pm. Basically work till lunch then go cool off and eat and find something else to do with the afternoon.
The cool off I referenced was just upper 80's. More of an average temperature for us. Although low 90's aren't bad. If humidity is down.

Trusses are up. Still need to add purlins. Ran out of daylight yesterday. Have one purlin down each side with front and back braces.

Farmer,

Looking good. I love these gambrel roof designs, and eventually will be building something pretty much identical to yours. Thanks for the photos along the way.

Can you tell me since you're this far along now, what is the height of 1st floor from concrete to bottom of 2nd story floor joists and then the height of 2nd floor from subfloor to ceiling at center and maybe at the corners from first sloping rafter? I'm trying to get an idea of head room in the storage loft and tractor room in the 1st floor.
