Stuck backhoe pin

A friend says he wants nothing to do with real torches and just messes with a propane torch and penetrating fluid. I don't even know how that is possible? I would be taking up another past time. Forget the MAPP gas. 50% hotter than nothing is still nothing! Like I said before, NOTHING generally happens til it's RED HOT! Consider it as being welded in there from corrosion.

Oxi Acetylene torch with a rose bud tip. Heat all the way across the underside of the bushing and put a pipe on your pipe wrench handle for more leverage. Spray the ends with WD40 and repeat until it comes loose.

MAPP gas is definitely somewhat hotter than propane, but that hoe bucket pin area is a massive amount of metal to heat.
MAPP with any of those small tank torch heads, would not make any real difference.
As mentioned in a previous post on this thread, Oxy/Acetylene with a rosebud tip is the way to go.

Yes, I know.

There was a problem. I don't know if it's a real problem or not though. I hit it with the torch for about 30 seconds and when i took it away the heat had transfered all the way up the arm to the other end and was boiling the grease at the joint in the other end. Is that to be expected? I felt the top arm and it was very warm.

You and I disagree at times but we are on the same page of this one. Many, many BTUs very, very fast before the pin soaks up too much heat.

You could trailer it to a welding shop and let them do it. Or call a mobile welder to come out.
Maybe call around to rental shops to rent a torch setup.
Another thought is to purchase a used torch seup and sell it when you are done.

Assuming the bucket hasnt been greased for a very long time.... that little puller wont do anything either.

You could also rent a portable impact gun that works like a jackhammer to push on the pin.

All in all I would just cut it out and be done. Pins arnt that expensive. You can make your own.

I still found that for the price of a new pin, cutting it off was the best option. I really hate wrecking stuff.

Even if you had the right kind of shop around, they will show you how it's done in fifteen minutes and still charge you more than a pin costs, which is a bargain for their time and resources.

I don't have a trailer heavy enough to take it, it's 13,000lbs and not the most maneuverable.

Every other pin is good, it's just that one, I'm not sure what happened. But I know the pin was welded on both ends so it couldn't be removed. I'm going to hit it with my 70lb jack hammer, it's just rigging a way to make it work horizontal.

Cutting the pin off isn't th eproblem, getting the pin out of the hole it's siezed in on the backhoe arm is the problem. It's loose on the bucket. If i had a place I trusted not to wreck it in the area i'd call them out but there's not a lot of that stuff around here.

Just keep in mind, not to mushroom the thing either. I had the SAME issue. I couldn't get the heat to the backhoe boom section. Not even with a cutting torch. Once cut off, and the bucket removed, I could and it was no problem at all to get it out.

It was also an older hoe, so putting a nice new pin in there wasn't a bad thing.

There's a very small hole about 1/4" throught he center of the pin. I have a pointed bit for my jackhammer so I'm planning on putting it in that hole to avoid mushrooming it. I'm going to rig up a tripod to hang the backhoe from that way it will be easy to push against that pin. I believe the boom is solid. I'll put heat against it, can't hurt i hope. then hammer the **** out of it.
