We got another 12" (30cm) of snow last night! It's crazy how much snow has fallen the past 10 days-must be 4 feet now

Just bought chains for my L48.....$400, but after plowing 10+ driveways the last couple of years which are 1,000' +/-, I decided they are worth it. This upcoming storm will tell the difference. The L48 is heavy and slow......and I feel that the chains will give me that extra grip going uphill. I wiped out last year causing more damage than the chains cost so I figured they are worth it.

I was told by my local dealer that one should not use chains on the front wheels as it can damage the transfer case due to, to much torque on it. Have any of you heard the same thing??? :)
The Gotcha Man
I've heard it more than once.

It figures......when I bought my 2230 in 2004, the snow here in WV stopped flying. Now that I have a 3030, It'll probably never snow here again!

LOL.....

We got one 4'' snow since I got my BX23 in Sept. of 2004.
I've never had THE bx23 hungup.
Did you keep the BX2230 after getting the 3030?
I'm keeping my BX23 after getting the 2 BX1500s month before last.

Because our winters have been pretty mild in Eastern Utah for the last few years I didn't even consider buying a blade with the tractor.
I have had a Bombardier Quest 650 4-wheeler with a snow blade for several years but haven't had enough snow to use it much until this week.
I have found the most efficient way for me to move the snow is to use the 4-wheeler to plow the snow with the blade set at an angle and then use the tractor's FEL to move the windrows of snow across the road or in the horse corals I pile it up in a corner.
I don't have a lot of snow time with my L3400 but I think I would consider chains if I was trying to plow snow with the tractor. I have R-4s.
One question I have: why do so many of the people who post photos here have the ROPS folded down?
Tom
I got a front blade for my BX1500 to grade with not to remove snow with; but it's there for that if needed.
I use the BX1500 and blade then the BX23 FEL for that.
I have R1s on both tractors and don't need chains.
Must be cause they aren't afraid of the ROPS Police.

I run iron on all four wheels of my 4150. I keep an implement on the rear to act as a counter weight so the front wheels don't grip too much and have had no issues.

My Kubota 345 DT snapped a front drive gear while moving snow a few years ago. Kubota doesn't make that part, of course, so we ended up doing some machine work.

Here's a couple of the 4150 pushing open a road.

One year the snow was very firm in my field, though something over two feet deep, and I was trucking along, not sinking in very far with my BX22. Everything was going fine until I hit a spot the sun had softened, and the tires broke through the crust. With bar tires, you can stir the snow pretty well when suspended on your belly, but you don't go far! I tried using the loader, but I was hung up pretty well. The backhoe was also bottomed on the snow, and that little bucket was difficult to use to help on the slight slope I was on. One neighbor actually saw me using a shovel, and she thought that was pretty funny. Of course just relieving a bit of snow under the belly enabled me to use the loader, and I got moving pretty quickly............. plowing a road to where I was going. :) Too bad it was before I got my digital camera!

Sorry, never been stuck in the snow. Mud, yes, but not snow. Here are a few pics of a BX with no chains in an Upstate NY snowfall.

I suppose now I'm doomed to get stuck this winter for shooting off my big mouth!
ROPS save lives!!!
Good snow fall!

Tango,

Believe me, I use the ROPS. I've got the marks in my garage door opening to prove it...............The driveway is dead flat, so the door trim buster stays down!
