Stuck Toy

Thought you might enjoy this. We've had a lot of rain and snow lately. I went into an area that looked semi solid ,and sank like a brick. The more I tried to get out, the deeper I sank. I finally took my chainsaw and cut a bunch of logs. Then alternated sides lifting it up with the bucket until I built a bed of logs under it. I was finally able to scoot it out. This picture is after I've been working on it for about 30 minutes.

I made the same mistake last year. It had been dry for a few weeks and I was itching to get into an area to clear some trees with my backhoe. I took a few out, hauled them to the burn pile and had put in about an hour when I broke through into a nightmare. I spent the next six hours getting myself out and creating an absolute mess in the process. The frustration and damage that I did to the area made it very clear to me that it's just not worth it to try and get anything done in winter. The area that I tore up became a holding area for water and took a month longer to dry out after everything else was dry.

It is amazing the mess that can be created getting a machine stuck. Not only does the machine get beat up and dirty, but the damage done to the worksite can be a real pain to repair. When a backhoe or trackhoe gets really into trouble, you are usually stuck beyond stuck, as you can usually lift yourself out and then reposition a backhoe or lift yourself to get something underneath the excavator tracks. Sometimes you put the machine in an extreme position where you can稚 swing or are in danger of flipping.


Only heard about stuff like than. Never happened to me, Honest!

Absolutely, not only do I have a mess, bu there are about two dozen logs buried under there I'll have to fish out.

About a month ago I was track deep in mud no problems at all, but the mud was more watery. This stuff was just the right consistently to allow the machine to sink until the underside hit the mud, then it supported it while the tracks just spun.

From one extreme to the other, today I had to plow snow with my tractor, in Alabama.

I was hauling a load of topsoil for free for a friend and broke thru a crust that was about a foot thick with a tandem dump. Both tandems went down hard, had the steering axle up in the air, both steering tires had about a foot of air under them. Went and got another friend, for free, to bring in his 50ton and 35ton wreckers, cabled down on the dumptruck and had the front end of both wreckers in the air. Wound up knocking the pins out of the tailgate and pulling it away with the wrecker and was able to boom out with the 50ton and get a cable on the dump body, raised the bed and dumped then shoveled the dirt out while the wrecker kept it from laying over on it's side. After that we were able to winch it out with the smaller wrecker. Put the tailgate back on, moved the truck up the hill from the pile, carted another load of soil from the pile up to the truck and finally got it delivered. "Friend" complained that there was a few sticks in it and some clay and no "thank you's" or "sorry for your troubles" were given.

Could I get a free load delivered to PA? I don't mind a few sticks or clay. But I would like it to be dry please.

I wish I had freinds like you. Most I know are too busy watching the ball game to ever help me out, and I'd never ask for help without providing plenty of cold beer, good food, and massive thank yous.

If I ever win the lottery I'm gonna buy a new set of friends

I have had the Big RED Beast stuck up to the axles before. Took me and my neighbors about 2 hours to cut enough short logs to shove under the tires. I would lift up and get enough logs under the tires to drive about 2 feet, then we would have to do the lifting and log shoring again 4 times. Also, I was told if you don't need another machine to pull you out of the muck, then you are just "delayed".:laughing::laughing::laughing:
