I think water got in there, probably hard wash water, and your clutch is corroded on to the plate. With luck, all you need is a shear pin and a new clutch, but I am afraid that splitting the tractor is in your future. You might just need the replacement pin, but I think that you will have to split the tractor to get to it.

It apparently will roll with the clutch depressed and skid the tires with the clutch engaged. I have no idea what the foreign material is I would suspect aluminum oxide but no telling for sure.

Does the YM 165 have a drain on the Bell Housing? sure is a lot of moisture that's been in there for a while.
Seems odd and just thought about it. Been quite a few yrs. when I first bought my Yanmar I noticed there is a bell housing drain on the YM2000. How I noticed that is after use I would see a small drip or two on the floor the next day just below it of what appeared to be Eng. Oil. Which was telling me the main seal had a small leak. No large amount ever came out where I plugged it Checking it and Yrs later it eventually dried up and fell out.. I think I used a whine Cork. But the leak stopped and to the day never see a drip. It's not in the Trans fluid pan but just in front in the bell housing just outside the pic..

From when I serv. the Trans. fluid and had to replace the Filter screen it was in such bad shape. you can see the Grn. Triangle. Boy Was it super Nasty and Stank!! Dead whale oil of 30Yrs!! Thick as Crisco oil on the bottom of the Pan!

Yes, it was at the very bottom. About a dime size hole. Nothing came out. This machine has never sat outside in the elements prior to me picking it up. But, I guess I do live in Iowa and summer can get extremely humid so moisture can get into anything

I would put tractor in neutral and make sure it will roll. Then put it in gear, push clutch and see if it still rolls. That removes the tranny stuck and clutch stuck issues being the problem. Put a breaker bar with socket on crankshaft nut and put a weight of about 100 pounds on it and walk away. Measure height of breaker bar from floor, and come back every day checking height. If it moves, add 50 pounds and wait another day. Once it moves, life will be good.
Pull starting, impact wrenches, beating on piston tops and most other ways have had a certain amount of success with stuck tractors, but you also risk bending a rod with impacted forces. You don't appear to be in a hurry, so let non impact be your guideline.

Use Air Pressure And ATF. Watch for the Valves to close And pressure up the Cyl. through the fuel Injection Port. A lot of even pressure added that way. And you can monitor it easily adding pressure. No beating on it. Zip tie a small vacuum hose to your air nozzle with a piece vacuum hose works really well! If you have a compressor?

I did that with clutch and rolling. In gear, it won't roll and when I depress clutch, it rolls.

Well, took the head back off. I don't think any of the fluid in the cylinders moved down. I think what got down in the oil pan was overflow when I put the head back down. I started tapping on the piston tops, no movement. I filled the cylinders back up and slid the head back on.....hurry up and wait. Cylinder walls are beautiful and show nice cross hatch. This is before I wiped it up.

I'm curious. Can the crankshaft be rotated at all? If you try the screwdriver through the starter hole trick can the flywheel be rotated even a tiny bit? The reason I ask is because since there is clearance between the connecting rod bearings and the crank shaft it should be possible to rotate the crankshaft a tiny amount even if the pistons are stuck solid. If the crankshaft won't move even a tiny amount then I think the crankshaft must be frozen in place. If it does move a tiny amount then the pistons are most likely the problem.
