Here is a video. I don't know how similar it is the the ETA grinder.

I wonder if my 60hp will be enough tractor

The grinders on EA's site are made by Shaver.

60HP would run the largest they make with ease.

I can't view the video, but if your looking at the Shaver SC50, that is the model that I have. I may be wrong, but I don't believe you have 60hp at your pto, however, I am using the SC 50 with my 39hp PTO tractor.

It is either Cat 1 or Cat 2, All you do is replace the cat 2 pins with cat 1 pins, and your good to go. I believe the top link pin is actually a cat 1 size (7/8") but has a sleeve for it to adapt to cat 2 if needed, you would just remove the sleeve.

Do you have 2 rear remotes available on your tractor?

Your tractor would run it just fine, with room to grow in case you wanted to upgrade your tractor someday :D

Your on the verge of being able to use the SC25, the smaller model which is rated to 50hp.

Here is my SC50 - I absolutely LOVE it, and I'll probably never get rid of it.

I have the SC25 from Shaver which I purchased over a year ago. It would perform better with more horse power. I would be hesitant buying one of these with HP on the lower end of its range -- especially if you've hardwood stumps.

What HP were you using it on?

Louie,
I'm glad you posted those pictures. I was mistaken in my original post when I said that the Woods TSG50 is the same as the Shaver SC25, after seeing your pics, I see that they are very different. The SC25 just looks like a smaller version of the SC50 with the same pivot design for left/right movement, whereas the Woods version is very different from the larger Woods model.

I'll edit my original post and delete that comment.

It looks like the 4105 uses about 32 hp at the PTO.

Yukonhunter,
What year is your 4520? If it's before '09 it has 40 pto hp, but if it's an '09 or newer it has 50pto hp (this is according to tractordata.com).

I think the SC25 would be better suited to a tractor of your (our) size. The SC50 really is on the large end for my tractor and I do have to use it very slowly on a big stump. I would thing the SC25 would be more efficient even though it is only slightly smaller.

Unless your planning on upgrading your tractor to something over 60hp or so, I would go with the SC25.

Louie, Does your stumpgrinder grind the stump going both directions, or only one way? Mine is one way only.

I spoke to Shaver regarding my stumpgrinder, and they said that the SC50 absolutely demolishes stumps when used with a 70-80hp tractor or more, and that although they rate it for 35-100 hp, it really is oversized for anything under 50-60hp and that is on the low end.

Its brand new and has 52 pto

You are correct -- about 32 HP at PTO for my JD4105. I'd like more power! However, I have two properties and like to haul my tractor with me and can't pull more weight.

Piston, my grinder is designed to cut one direction. Curious if you are able to use your grapple and stump grinder simultaneously? That would be nice! I must unhook my 3rd function up front when stump grinding ;)

Yes I can. I have 4 rear remotes and use 2 for top n tilt, and the other 2 for the stumpgrinder. Then I have a 3rd function for my loader. It really is nice having all those remotes, but as a matter of fact, I'm going to have to add at least one more, and quite possibly two more for the new rear blade I just bought.

Yukon,
As I said, my 39pto hp does run my SC50, it's absolutely on the low end, but with 52hp I think it would work considerably better. I think you really could go either way. The best thing to do would be call Shaver and talk to them about it. I've never run an SC25 so it's tough to say how it would do on my lower hp tractor, let alone your 52hp.

Are you leaning towards either one? Are there any more specific questions you have for the SC50? If you'd like, I'll be grinding some stumps next week and could take a video or time how long it takes if it would help in your decision/comparison? What are the average size stumps you'll be grinding? What type of wood? I have just about everything in every size so I could probably get a good idea of how long it would take per stump with my lower hp tractor, and maybe that would give you a good idea of what to expect at the absolute worst case.

Any opinions on the quality of the Woods TSG50?

Isn't it made by Shaver?

I thought so too from some older posts I've read on here, but compare the picture of Louie's SC25 to the Woods TSG50. Notice the difference in the way the side to side pivot point is mounted, on the Shaver, it looks much more substantial and heavier built.

The Woods unit has a 20" diameter cutting wheel, 24 cutting teeth, and the unit weighs 540lbs. It can grind a stump from 16" high down to 16" below the surface.

The Shaver unit has a 24" diameter cutting wheel, 23 cutting teeth, and the unit weighs 832lbs. It can grind a stump from 24" high down to 10" below the surface.

I can't say for sure that Shaver does NOT make the Woods units, but I think it's safe to say that the TSG50 is not the same as the SC25, which is what I was always led to believe until I looked into it more.

The Shavers are the more stout sounding set up. The niche the Woods unit seems to fill is between 35 and 50pto HP. With the Shaver line you need to go up to the larger unit. I would be using one on either a 44 or 49pto HP tractor. The larger Shaver SG-50 unit is a lot of machine. Older post attached, I see Piston, you are in here at the end.

Tom,
I would call Shaver and ask about those hp ratings. When I asked about the SC50 he told me that it can be used on much larger than 100hp tractors. I would be shocked if a 50hp tractor would be able to do any damage whatsoever to the SC25! Not to mention, the slip clutch would be working as well if it's properly adjusted.

I have a feeling that the PTO hp is just a general recommendation. To me, the Shaver SC25 looks like it could stand up to more than the Woods unit. However, maybe it's the gearbox or pto shaft that they are basing the hp on. I'd give Shaver a call before ruling them out for the 35-50hp range.

Good points. The Woods is nearly a few thousand dollars less which factors in. EA has the SG25 at $6169 with free shipping, the Woods TSG50 is on EBay for $3950 plus shipping. I am seeing Worksaver and Bradco out there as well.

Woods SG100 looks a lot like the shaver.
