I have the SC25 from Shaver which I purchased over a year ago. It would perform better with more horse power. I would be hesitant buying one of these with HP on the lower end of its range -- especially if you've hardwood stumps.
Louie,
I'm glad you posted those pictures. I was mistaken in my original post when I said that the Woods TSG50 is the same as the Shaver SC25, after seeing your pics, I see that they are very different. The SC25 just looks like a smaller version of the SC50 with the same pivot design for left/right movement, whereas the Woods version is very different from the larger Woods model.
I'll edit my original post and delete that comment.
It looks like the 4105 uses about 32 hp at the PTO.
Yukonhunter,
What year is your 4520? If it's before '09 it has 40 pto hp, but if it's an '09 or newer it has 50pto hp (this is according to tractordata.com).
I think the SC25 would be better suited to a tractor of your (our) size. The SC50 really is on the large end for my tractor and I do have to use it very slowly on a big stump. I would thing the SC25 would be more efficient even though it is only slightly smaller.
Unless your planning on upgrading your tractor to something over 60hp or so, I would go with the SC25.
Louie, Does your stumpgrinder grind the stump going both directions, or only one way? Mine is one way only.
I spoke to Shaver regarding my stumpgrinder, and they said that the SC50 absolutely demolishes stumps when used with a 70-80hp tractor or more, and that although they rate it for 35-100 hp, it really is oversized for anything under 50-60hp and that is on the low end.
