Good idea Brandi! It's an impressive sight to see those hundreds, if not thousands of tractors in that huge lot.

Dick - I'll pick you up at the airport and we can go see Brandon together. Only 20 minutes from airport on Jackrabbit road. I've sent him a few suggestions via email too. (And admittedly the manual on the 2538 was one of them...) :p

I can go to Olivehurst, where the west coast distributor is and see a whole bunch of tractors too and I don't have to get on an airplane to do it. It's only about 35miles down the road. I hate to fly anymore. I did quite enough of that in my day plus I remember back when flying used to be a pleasurable experience but no more. People even used to get dressed up before they got on an airplane but no more. Heck they even fed you and the airline folks acted like they wanted you on their plane but not now. The stewardess used to be kinda nice to look at too. Today some of them have a hard time just getting down the aisle not that they have any reason to anymore. LOL

Actually mine machine was made by Mitsubishi. Mitsu makes the 1500 series while TYM makes the 2500 machines. The Mitsu is supposed to be a little nicer. Like I said I like the machine just not the manuals nor what seems to be Mahindras attitude. I know manuals aren't hard to do because I've done a few in my day and there is absolutely no reason whatsoever for Mahindra not to have good service info accessible and avaliable to owners on their website. They did once a few years ago. Most of the data needed for service info and manuals is already avaliable. They have to have it to build the tractors. All it takes is a copy of Adobe Acrobat to put it together into decent service and or operators manuals. If you want a hard copy, just hit the print button. It really is easy to do. The reasons aren't because they can't nor is it expensive, it's simply a conscious choice on their part and that is why I'm so adamant and vocal about it. Chaulk it up as a bad attitude which is not good for us or for them. I actually want them to succeed. I watched what happened to Detroit when they got a dose of attitude problems.

BTW I'm a little off 49, you take hwy 20 to my place which jogs east from Nevada City. Where were you up here?

Dick..

I was actually all over the Sierra's..Long story short..Born in Lodi ,spent most of my life above Pioneer on Hwy 88, about 6500 ft elev mark..that was "home"..spent a bit in Grass Valley and Quincy ...covered N Cali to about Arnold ,Sonora area..was involved in the timber trade,,Anywhere from harvesting, loading, setting chokers, mechanic to driving trucks to the mill's..covered about every dirt track or paved highway in between..And that was the summer job. That is about all I miss of the left coast is the Mountains.

Yeah, there's not that much logging going on around here anymore. There's a big logging outfit, Robinson, in Nevada City but I hardly ever see their trucks on the road so don't know how they're hanging on. There are a lot of beetle kill trees that need cutting down though. Mostly pine so that's mostly down at the lower elevations. The drought was hard on the pine trees so the pine bark beetles really took off and killed a lot of trees.

dickfoster.....I am surprised that your backhoe is struggling with stump removal. I have spent the last few weeks digging stumps with my backhoe with great success and I believe our tractors are of similar size. From my experience I believe the best way to do it is to keep moving further away from the stump until you can rip through the roots with the bucket. I always end up with a very large hole that I have to fill....but at least the stump is out. On average the large 30 inch diameter stumps take me about 2 hours until they are spinning free in the hole.

The stumps that I am currently removing cannot be grinded as I plan on pouring a concrete slab over top.

I took me and 1 hour 15 min. I think I can get my time down considerable as I get used to the backhoe controls. I also plan on having my son drive me around the stump to cut down on the time to get it moved around. I also noticed that that the "big hole" method works quite well. I will start wide and work my way into the stump from now on.

Ooooo...make sure you have plenty of re-bar were that stump is going to be....I will guaranty you the first cracks to start there!

I stop after a while and move on to another stump that is more cooperative. I don't want to dig huge holes. I know if I kept at it I would eventually win but the pile is getting kinda huge already and I don't want to dig huge holes to deal with plus adversely impact the trees left standing by getting into their roots too. In a perfect world I'd simply rather grind them into mulch.
In your case you need to get them gone completely but mine are in the middle of a forest surrounded by other trees and I have no plans to build anything but a nice looking patch of woods.

Don't get in a hurry to pour a slab after removing the stumps, unless you have someone come in compact the soil and check density...Even with rebar I have seen cavern's open up under slab's that have not settled or been properly compacted a density checked..
