Stupid Things I Have Done

Hey Engineer42, you just reminded me of the time I accidentally dipped a finger into a solder pot, essentially a small cistern of molten tin-lead solder. Trouble is, even after removing my finger from the vat, it was still covered in scalding hot molten metal, and I was in the basement shop with the closest cold water up a flight of stairs to the kitchen. Definitely one of my less pleasant injuries.

I don't remember how I got the cooled and hardened metal off of my finger, my mind must have blocked that out in the 25+ years since it happened.

Reminds me of a far past event. Senior year in high school I was a stableboy for a girls camp in Vermont. End of season they threw a big party on an island in Lake Champlain for the staff and counselors. Mostly young college age females. Sitting around the campfire, it was late, went to impress a particularly good looking counselor by picking up a live coal out of the fire to light her cigarette.
Trick is to lick your fingers, dip them in ash, try not to get a cherry red piece of oak, go for pine.
It worked, but the fingers were sensitive for days.

one of the best UNANTICIPATED benefits was absolutely top notch restaurant quality food 3 to 4 times a day. Taught me that rich girls eat well and that with a full regime of competitive horse riding and sailing for exercise can stay fit and trim.

My uncle had really good luck with a bucking chainsaw. It took his glasses off his nose and the next year it cut his shoe laces. Both times he needed a few stitches but he decided a couple of butterfly bandages was good enough.
