~135 acres of doghair timber in the Colorado mountains. Only tractor on site is an old wrecked Farmall unit that only runs the sawmill off the PTO. Works fine, but I could sure use a tractor that moves....

Because my wife loves to build flower gardens and an abundance of trees, I still mow with a wheel horse lawn tractor. The drive is 450' long. Trap rock at the house and turn around for ~150' then crush stone for the rest to the street where there's about a 20' asphalt apron. I plowed it for the first time yesterday - almost 6" of snow and it worked great. No problem with turf tires. I have skid shoes which help on the trap rock part, and just dropped the blade in the float position for the rest. Smiling ear to ear the whole time. Even did my neighbors drive. 2*What is trap rock? I have never heard the term before.
Maybe we call it something different back here.

I have a BX 23 also but I don't have a front or rear blade so am wondering about the FEL.

I used the Kubota 60" hydraulic front blade to plow. I didn't try the FEL first as I didn't want to have to switch from the FEL to the plow in the middle of a snow storm.
What we call trap rock is (I think) crushed stone. It's screened at what looks like 3/4"- 1" and it seems a little longer than wide, is dark gray and very rough (no smooth edges). There is no dust in it so it doesn't compress down hard like the processed stone, which I think has cement dust in it. It holds together pretty well, and when you walk on it you don't track fine particles into the cars rugs. It also looks nice. I put 24 ton down as my first project with the BX23. Moved it around with the FEL, and smoothed it out with the box blade. I think a landscape rake with wheels would do a better job for smoothing and getting rid of the ripples.
The plow has skid shoes which I feel helped me to just move snow and not the rocks.
I think the FEL would work OK to move the snow, but it might be tough to do a long drive with one.

If you would like, I can post a close-up of what the trap rock looks like with something in the pic for perspective.

That looks a lot like what we call 2B crushed limestone around here. 1B being smaller, 3B larger and so on.

I am a fan of the stuff as it sticks together and does not spin out from under car wheels too easy when used on a slope...
