Suggestions for winch mount on trailer

Just for kicks, i think I saw this idea in FARM SHOW magazine. The guy had a beam on the front of the trailer that allowed him to have his winch and winch mounted assembly slide from side to side or stay in the middle. He had places to put a pin or bolt to hold it. His reason for doing it was because he was often dragging up crippled rigs and the ability to move his point of pull made the process go smoother. One of them thar idears that make you go Hmmmmm.

Here is my setup. Love it. 2 handles, easy to carry and fully self contained. 8000 lbs. Warn winch, mounted inside an old toolbox to a 1/4" plate on the bottom. The "legs" are square tubing that also hold the 2" square tube that slides into the female on the trailer or into a receiver hitch. Pull the pin and it stores on the shelf until next time.

I have a 18' full tilt hydraulic flatbed trailer. I have a winch to install to the front of it. Just looking for ideas to see how people have done it.

I'll send pictures after work, but I was thinking to make a weldment with a standard female receiver hitch and then I would then fab the male portion to the winch.
That way I can take the winch on and off easily and not be exposed to the elements.

Also thought about a full toolbox enclosure with a front door and mount everything inside.

What has everyone else found that works?

I welded a female 2" receiver tube to the front of my trailer so a friend could use it to haul home some old cars. He put his winch on a portable mount made just for 2" receivers. I have a toolbox on the front of the trailer, so he put a battery and the winch in there when not in use and just pinned it to the female tube when needed. Worked fine. I'm planning on getting a winch in the near future to haul logs onto the trailer, so that was the main goal. What I'd like to do is add a battery isolator inside the tool box. When the trailer hitch is plugged in, the alternator on the tow vehicle will charge it, but when it draws high amps during a pull, it won't pull current through the smaller hitch wires, or drain the tow vehicle battery.

My trailer is a short 16' so I needed to mount my winch forward of the bed. I used a drop hitch with a plate welded on to it to bolt on the winch. The winch can be rotated 180* and remounted so that I can use the winch in the receiver in the rear of my vehicle. Last year I mounted the winch in the receiver of a disabled pickup so that we could winch the vehicle out of a back yard to a place that my trailer could access. Then we moved the winch to the trailer then pulled the truck up on to the trailer.

The winch is a Warn 3700 which is small enough to carry easily yet powerful enough to pull vehicles with flat tires. I only put the winch on the trailer when I need it so portability was important to me. The receiver mount system also lets me mount a hitch and ball to the front of the trailer bed so that I can hitch the front of a small trailer with bad bearings or flat tires once I get it up on the bed. A couple of straps at the back and I can haul it home.
