Yes and no. Unfortunately I can't use one because fido likes to go swimming when I'm not home. I don't want him getting tangled up in the cover.

Regarding filter types. I've had good luck with my Hayward DE filter. My dad had a cartridge paper filter on his pool. It took hours to clean with the hose. He has since switched to DE. It may have just been the particular filter.

If you want to be lazy about backflushing and refilling a DE filter, you can vacuum to waste. My dad does this and only has to replace the earth once a year.

dlabrie sorry for the late reply this is the second year we put it up it is in great shape we bought it locally at waliemart also many toy stores have them i hope to get 4 to 5 seasons out of it if we don't go bigger in the tv commercial's they show a truck driving into the side of it it bounces back into shape we also filled from a dug well with no problems

Five years ago we put in a 24' X 48" deep round. We had to level out about 14" on the high side. Used a box blade and just kept making passes and scooping it out. I built a deck on one side of the pool with a gate. We use a Sand filter. Easiest to use, but I have found that the DE filter will actually clean better and grab smaller particles. It is also more work when Backwashing. Chlorine and other chemicals run me around 100. year. We have a solar cover but don't use it because by the end of June the water is up to 80 degrees. In August it hits close to 90. I angle my return line down and to the right so it swirls the water CCW (looking down at the pool) so the bottom stays clean. Typically vacuum once every other week. One of the best things we bought!
