Kubota B2620, Toro 2000 Series Z Master
Does anyone have any experience with the T or TG series riding tractors from Kubota? I am looking at buying a tractor to mow 1 1/2 acres and I'm trying to make up my mind. I will use it mainly for mowing but I would use it from time to time to haul a trailer and maybe use a front blade to level sand and rocks. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I've owned a T1670 for 18 months now and have been very satisfied with it. Like all Kubota products, it's well made and comfortable to use. I particularly like the strong hydrostatic transmission, and the beefy deck attachment, frame, and steering column. But it's probably a little small for what you are wanting to mow, as it only has a 40" deck on it. I don't think it has a front blade as an option either. Since I also own a b2910, I haven't used it for much other than mowing and towing a small dump cart.

When you start looking at the TG series, in my opinion it begins to make sense costwise to also look at the BX series. The BX1500 is a full featured diesel tractor. Not only will it serve as a finish mower, but you can also put a blade on the 3-point hitch and do some real work. Got a garden? Buy a 3-pt pto tiller. Want to move dirt? Get the front end loader. You get the picture . . . lots more versatility than a lawn (T-series) or garden (TG series) tractor. I could be wrong, but I think a BX-1500 with a mid-mount mower can be had for under $8k. My little T1670 cost me $3,500 out the door, but it's not even close to the same capabilities.

In 10-20 years, the BX-1500 will still be worth a sizable portion of your original purchase price. This isn't just wishful thinking, it's a fact. Little tractors just don't depreciate like cars, boats, or lawn mowers.

You should probably post some more details about the conditions on your home turf, and you'll get more directed advice. It could be that a T-series will do what you need.

No specific experience with the T or TG lines, but I have a G1800 16 hp diesel. I have over 200 hours on it, and it is the most massively well-built and useful garden tractor I have ever seen or used - I don't expect to ever buy another riding mower ever again. It easily pulls anything I can put in a huge 4-wheel trailer. Mows like a champ, great cut with a 54" belly mower. Runs forever on a tank of fuel.

My only warning on this size of tractor is, that the wheels are pretty small and if you are mowing pasture that is not smooth finished lawn it will bounce you all over the place. You can still mow on rougher ground, but you will have to go slower. But for real lawn and general hauling, it can't be beat IMO.

The radiator is a little undersized for Texas heat; it works fine as long as you always keep the screens clean.

Also, it has a low center of gravity and is very stable on slopes, but it is only 2WD and the turf tires will spin pretty easily if you hang up the mower in a ditch or on a high spot.

Overall I'm very pleased with the quality build and usefullness of my G1800.

Good luck with your decision.

Pete

Thanks for the great info. As for more info on what I will do doing with it, I will be mowing about 1 1/2 acres of flat land (manicured yard) and would like to have something capable of pulling small trailers, leveling sand and maintaining about a 100ft rock driveway. I want a tractor that will last 20+ years. I take excellent care of everything I own and I'm a mechanic by trade. I don't want to over buy, but I'm willing to spend the necessary money for something that will do what I want and be happy with it.

I'm also open to other brands as I've been looking at Cub Cadet also.

Thanks for everyones input.

Thanks for the reply. If you don't mind me asking... what did you pay for it? Did you get any attachments? Do you think it is capable of doing what I want to do? Mainly mowing 1 1/2 acres and using a front blade for leveling sand and maintaining a rock driveway. What do you use yours for... with 500 hrs on it you have obviously put it through the paces. Thanks /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

You can find TG's used for pretty good prices. Because of subcompacts the market for used garden tractors is pretty flooded. The TG is a great quality tractor and I would have no hesitations over buying used.
