Nasty, my post wasn't meant for you, I just clicked reply after the last message. It was meant for the original poster. This is the steel siding that I used

Do you have any more pictures of your barn with that vertical siding? I think that may be what I'm loking for. I went to the manufacturer web page but they were lacking in useful photos of installations. I am curious how you dealt with windows with the vertical nature of the siding.

Cliff_Johns, It's under projects, bubbas basic barn, around 3/29/04 ,I'll try to link it barn thread Only two pics with siding done. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif With windows you just use j channel like regular siding, instead of going up you go left or right which ever way you start, depends if your right handed or left handed it can work to your advantage... /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Yes, put the siding up first, then putting the 1 1/2" lip over the siding will work fine the way you described. It will cover your cut edge up and keep water from getting inside the wall.

Mopower440, If you decide to use the vinyl siding you will need to do your trim work (j-channel around windows doors & eves, outside corners & inside corners if you have any inside corners that is) before you start your siding panels, so the cut ends of the panels are tucked in the j-channel (unseen)

Also a good tip if I can explain ,When cutting the j-channel above doors & windows cut the j-channel about 2" longer than it needs to be,then trim with snips the face of the j-channel on the ends the extra 1"on each side back to be even with the window and also do that to the side attached to the barn leaving a 3/4" tab that you can bend down into the vertical j-channel going up the side which helps in tighter fitting the trim and also helps in sealing the weather(water) out! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
