Tach installed on BX

Here is a picture of a cab from Curtis. Basically you can take a ROPS tractor and make it take a cab. Sims is another mfg but I could not find a web presence for them. Curtis Cabs

The BX series does not have a tach, it has only an hour meter. Tiny Tach, although I don't currently have one, only provides you with an RPM read out of your engine speed. As for the hour meter on the BX, I think it works on time only and does not factor in engine speed.

I have a Curtis Cab on my BX 2200 and LOVE it! However, you should be aware that 1.) It makes it much more difficult to remove the FEL or other attachments because you can not use the quick disconnect frame on the right side since the hydro joystick goes through the firewall of the cab. You must leave the hydraulics in place and remove the steel pin at the loader arm pivot point and the steel pin at the end of the cylinder. You must also add quick disconnects to the hydraulic hoses. 2.) In order to use this cab with a back hoe you would have to remove the rear canvas panel and then you would still have to deal with the cab roof. It hink it would be awkward at best.

Here's a picture of the right side with the loader off. You can see the two steel pins I'm talking about. They have to be driven out and they need to go back in in the proper rotation because the clevis pins that hold them in place also go through the shoulder of the hole on the loader frame. Got the answer today when I called Tiny Tach. Their tach records actual running hours just like the Kubota factory hour meter. It does have 2 programmable settings that are to remind you of service times. It can also do timing of the job for billing hours. Overall, it is quite a good item for $65 and well worth the investment in my opinion. I ordered one today because my ear isn't as well tuned to RPM at my advanced stage of life....... Just another thing about becoming a SENIOR that I don't like!

Called Curtis today and they are sending the install instructions and the brochure on the cab. Told me that it will not work with the backhoe and that it must be removed to use the backhoe. They suggested their soft sided cab instead. Since I am thinking of it for winter only to use with a snow blower, it seems worthwhile until I got the sticker shock of a price.... $2600 plus another $300 for a cab heater. Didn't ask if the wiper motor was included in that price, because they talked me out of it with the price quote.

Mine is the soft sided cab, and it doesn't look like something I want to be taking off and putting on too many times. The dealer told me that it takes his guys a full day to install one of these. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I bought my tractor with the cab already installed and the price with heater and wiper was only about $1200. Of course, this was before the great rush this spring when they were still making deals on tractors! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
