Yeah, I know. I was just makin' a funny. Looking forward to the pictures. You don't happen to have any without the primer, when all the rust was removed after brewing in the soup do you?

Glowplug here's a picture of the blade once taken out of the soup and hit with a pressure washer. Bare metal needs to be primed almost immediately or surface rust will start to form.

Sorry I didn't post sooner but free time around here lately is a real premium.

Hey,

I thought this post was about your haircut !!!

Looks good, You know every time I've used it was on really badly pit-ed stuff. It gets the rust but hard to describe it as looking new Sometimes holes show up in your project

Someone asked about paint removal, Ive always had good luck with it removing the paint but then the paint was in bad shape before it went in to the bath.

How are you going to apply paint ?

Nothing fancy John, brush on the primer, and follow with a coat or two of NH blue. Electrolysis will not remove base metal, so if the project had a hole that was plugged with rust then it will show up. Otherwise you will be good to go.

Have always found the A & H Washing Soda in our local grocery store.

A couple of ole' timely uses for it:

Sprinkle on rugs/floors and let sit for Hour(s). We have even let it sit overnight. Then vaccum it up. This will kill fleas and their eggs, and who knows what else:) Anb it is pretty long lasting. Apparently there is residue that remains after the clean-up. Te most we do it is 2x year. Mostly once a year.

Many years ago had a long time plummer tell me that when things clog up in pipes etc. on a regular basis, he recommended mixing Washing Soda with hot water and dumping it down the drains before bedtime. Upon rising run the hot water for a while. It works.

Are you gonna do any base metal prep (sanding, grinding, brushing, etc.) before applying the primer or is it pretty well prepped with the rust removed?

Glowplug there's no rust now, and there's no grease or oil since it's been in the washing soda for better than a week. I already gave it a good hose down with the pressure washer so I should be good to go with the bare-metal primer.

Restoration posts are the best. Thanks for taking the time to photograph your progress. Looking forward to the finish blue. You will need a spiffy decal though.

Pine....Cool Man. That's a great experiment and looks like it works well. Did it affect the paint at all?

More pics please of the finished product when you can.

Jim the process loosens the original paint so that it can be easily removed using a power washer. I'll be painting the blade today or tomorrow and will post some pictures as it goes back together.
