/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif One of the better fabricators on the site is going to BUY something rather than make it? Even with a lovely assistant to do the painting ?

Try htatro@bwsys.net for Andy Tatro...recommended. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Mad, nice job on the grapple. I think by bolting the grapple on top of your bucket, you have actually made it stronger. Also, the pins don't really need grease because they just aren't under load like the loader pins are. I consider the grapple pins to be just like 3PH pins. They may squeak and squawk a bit, but they will last many lifetimes before you'll see any wear. Grease zerks would be overkill in my estimation.

Great job also on your WR Long diverter and joystick control. I'm sure that makes the use of the third function for the grapple very intuitive. You'll do things with grapple and bucket now that you never even considered doing before. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

What is the opinion on these grapples that are much narrower than the bucket? Wouldn't it be better to grab material with a full width clamshell type arrangement? I really like what I see and this tatro fellow seems to make a recommended product at a decent price. So many choices.

tlbuser,
Nice words...thanks,
I thought long about how I really want those curved jaws and I could not cut that shape easily on my stuff. Tatro's curves are very appealing, but your reply is nudging me ... Geez.

Jim, Thanks for Andy's email. I 'll send him a message and see what he's got available.

About Highbeam's question...the narrower than bucket style...as a rule of thumb, is there any certain width or percentage of bucket size that make it more effective? Any reason not to go full length?

I asked Andy the very same question and his response was that on a grapple that is to wide you are more apt to twist the assembly or tweak it out of shape when you make your bite. I split the difference and went with a 48" unit on a 72" bucket, and I'm very happy with the grapple as a whole.

You can see mine go together here

So how would one of the bucket grapples work picking up dead medium cedar trees?
