( What is the opinion on these grapples that are much narrower than the bucket? )

I like the small grapple with my rock bucket. I can pull the pins and snatch the jaws and cylinder off because they just weigh around 50 lb. Also, I have yet to find anything I can't clamp down on enough to lift with my narrow jaw including rocks that were so big my loader would hardly lift them. I didn't want to do a lot of welding, so buying the grapple as-is was ideal for me. For someone else, they may completely different needs and abilities. You just have to suit your own situation and use. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

. Is there any reason to make a cover plate to protect the hydraulic cylinder and lines like I've seen on some models?

I like the idea of the cover plate on a grapple, seems to give it additional protection when moving brush around.

Thanks, I like the 48" grapple too.

In my opinion the cylinder covers are overkill, although they do lend some additional protection.

tlbuser,
Thanks for the link, that may persuade me to make my own? Although I did email Andy Tatro. I gave him my bucket information(dimensions) and his first reply was to ask additonal questions but noted that for my 72" bucket his cost would be "much more" for some reason /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif So I'll see what he comes up with before I decide which way to go.

I sent him an email too, yesterday in the early afternoon. We can compare notes when he replies. I used the email address off of Pineridge's site so I hope that was valid.
