Taurus "The Judge" or??

Ran across some new handgun specific .410 buckshot today. Picked up 4 boxes to try in my Judge. According to some sources it was optimized specifically for the Judge and claimed 15" gelatin penetration.

Federal Personal Defense .410 Handgun 2.5 inch with 4 000 pellets with claimed muzzle velocity of 1200 fps.

Oh and last week I picked up a S&W SS 4" Mountain Gun in 45LC, so the Judge has a common round with it. Had a devil of a time finding some .452 lead SWC for reloading for the pair.

try the graf & sons website - I just got their new components sale flier in the mail today and there were a couple of sources for 45LC components in there.

You do know that the muzzle velocity won't be but maybe half that coming out of a 3" barrel, don't you? You'll create a nasty flesh wound with that load, but that's about it. As I said, I bought one and shot one; in 3" magnum. To confuse this pistol with a man-killer hand cannon could be a fatal mistake.

Read a case the other day in the paper where a guy was found not guilty by a jury on self defense grounds for killing another guy with a single shot.......

..........from a .25 auto...............

He did hit him right between the eyes and it was close range. :)

Point is, a lot of people get killed with guns that are a lot less than a "hand cannon" that some people seem to think it takes to provide a level of self defense. AND, a lot of people miss with the "hand cannons".

I'm not saying the Judge is perfect for self defense. For one thing it's kind of large and bulky. But it could be effective with the right round in the right place.

You are dead on about the drop in muzzle velocity on a pistol though.

What do you think about a .410 slug in the Judge? I haven't tried that yet.

Federal claims 1200 fps from the Judge with the .410 Personal Defense buckshot, I'd say that is more than adequate velocity from a short barrel.

I'm not sure what the advantage of a .410 slug would be since the Judge will shoot regular old 45LC ammo with any type of bullet you'd want. Most slugs for .410 are 1/4 ounce, or 110 grain. I load my 45LC with 250 grain lead bullets, much heavier than a slug.

I agre.. just about any firearm comercially made _IS CAPABLE_ of killing.. to think otherwise is folley.

I carry a .32acp as a 'backup' gun when I need ultra-discreet carry. It's an anemic round.. I imagine I'll have to dot the i's if I want 100% guaranteed 1-shot drops.. but in any case.. I'll take it vs a cell phone dialing 911 in that split second emergency situation..

I agree with you. A well placed .32, .380. or 9mm would be better than a miss with a .50 cal.
