The pump runs all the time.. it's not a 'demand' system. The unloading valve takes care of oil diversion when it isn't being directed to the hyd piston... For has been using a version of this method since late 1952...

. When the lift arms were all the way up the pump kept running, trying to lift the arms further then they would go, and this used up a lot of the power normally available to drive the tractor.

Soundguy, I re-read what I wrote and it wasn't correct. I understand what you are saying and in my case the lift arms were not going high enough (they hit the stops) to meet the position set by the control lever and the high pressure system relief valve was opening to release pressure. Same as if I was trying to lift 5000lbs with the lift arms or FEL. I could hear the fluid bypassing and loss of rpm when the lift arms hit the upper stops. Stopping the lift arms at any lower position worked and sounded normal. I adjusted the position control rod per the maintenance manual instructions to correct this problem.

Sounds like some value engineering got you. Inthe old days ford installed the 3pt max travel limit linkage under the top cover, and had a feeler that stuck out near the mouth of the hyd cyl. The head of the piston , when it came tot he end of the hyd cyl is what actuated the feeler linkage to cut the oil off .. why ford ever changed from that GOOD working system, I'll never know. I constantly see grief with external limit linkage on tractors that use it .. especially inthe chinese section...

Must have been a bean counter that told them they could say a penny on every 10 units produced if they butchered up a perfectly good working system into one that usually worked pretty good... Go figure..

GreenAcres,

As DieselMonk said, Biodiesel tends to clean a fuel system, especially when switching from one fuel type to another. Since you recently switched, I would go with the fuel filter as mentioned. Then try to stay consistent with the fuel blend (type). :)

good luck with the fix.

Greenacres,

Did you find out anything? Me being a New Holland owner would like to know what you found. I have had the same thing and it was always a plugged fuel filter. My tank sat empty for a year or two and during the time must have built up some crud and it comes down every so often. The dealer did clean the tank out and now I don't have any troubles but I change my fuel filter every spring and fall. It's is a cheap cheap filter.
