I priced a Hydro TC18 today, with rear 9.5x16 ag tires, and power steering. It came to $9,100.00.

I've mowed with about every thing from cheapo mowers, Kubota's and even bigger tractors pulling finish mowers! BUT! NOTHING mows grass like my Gras Hopper 721-D!! I can mow so much faster now, and it's a lot easier on the buldged disc in my lower back!!!
I'll NEVER go back to a tractor for mowing my grass!!

What did the 721-D run you if you don't mind. How easy is it to work on. I am considering both options and I figure they will cost roughly the same amount give or take $1k. Do you travel with it as I would use it to mow my apartments which are 1/2 mile apart and I would rather not have to tow it around everytime I mow. Thanks for your time.

Robert,
I was not slamming the NH in my opinion the size of the BX would be more suited for 1 acre, I personally own a B-7500 and chose it over the BX for ground clearance. In my area BX also has the price advantage, that said I feel any of the big three will be a fine choice.

I didn't figure you were but was curious as you said to check out the Kubota but didn't say why in your initial post. Thanks for the update. Later.

Having worked in high school & college as a landscaper, The commercial mower will do a better job faster at cutting grass. The tractor will also do the mowing job & is more versatile. Sounds like the decision you need to make is what else might you want to do with it in the future.

Only having the funds to buy one machine, I am getting a small tractor.

That is what I was starting to think about. I have access and will buy a NH 1920 from my neighbor when he sells out next year which will be a nice little machine for working around the orchard and vineyards but other than that I have too many tractors as it is. And this purchase will be for mowing and blowing snow only which the Grasshopper does also so I will have to think things thru more and talk with the dealers and demo both units to see which I feel more comfortable with. Thanks for your insight

Not downing the comercial mower, as they do well what they are designed to do ( mow lotsa grass fast ), but you won't be disapointed with the 1920 if it has been maintained well.... I don't know what I would do without mine.

The 1920 is too big for what I need mowed and I would have to buy a mower for it as well as new wheels as the R-1's would not work well. Basicly what I need is a lawn mower that will hold up and be able to work in some tight places around trees, buildings and sidewalks since our apartments are in town. This is why I have leaned towards a commercial zero turn mower.

The 1920 is a nice tractor and I use it on a regular basis. My neighbor is in his 80's now and has trouble hooking up implements to it so I help him out as much as I can. I enjoy it and I use to work for him back when I first started working. He wants me to buy his farm either later this year or next year and the tractor and other equipment would all go with it. I would use the 1920 mostly as a brush chopping tractor for around the inside of the pens and on the farm like it is now. I have a lot of tractors as it is now but they are all too big and cumbersome for a mower. Thanks though.
