Thanks for the concern Jim,

I have researched here and elsewhere on the web and also agree that the standard flow is insufficient.

However, I have considered this...and was toying with this idea.

If I use the flow from a PTO powered pump (uses would include a wood splitter for 3 point and a tree shear) with hose to loader controls, wouldn't that give me the volume the hydraulic PHD's need? /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Granted I am a novice when it comes to hydraulics, but with the loader having quick connect hydraulic hoses it would seem I could substitute the "power" and "return" hoses from the PTO pump to provide the flow I need.

I plan to build a lot of additional implements myself, so my knowledge of hydraulics will improve. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks,
Gary

With a PTO pump, you have to have large hoses (3/4" to 1" dia), control valves, and quick-connects much larger than your standard connections on the loader. Just consider that the loader goes to a position and stops. To run a PHD, you have to have constant flow under pressure for an extended amount of time. Like a hydrostatic transmission, that will require a reservoir of probably 10 gallons of fluid and maybe more. You'll also need some way of cooling the fluid since the PTO pump and the PHD motor will get hot and transfer heat to the fluid.

I don't pretend to know any of the details, but in general, most people who want a hydraulic PHD end up with a much larger tractor like the TN with an optional 16 gpm flow hydraulic system. I might be able to run a loader mounted PHD with my tractor, but I doubt I'd be happy with it. Skid steer loaders also have gigantic flow compared to our tractors. That's why they have hydraulic powered implements. They are engineered for constant flow and the associated plumbing, cooling, and reservoir volume.

I don't want to discourage you, I think it could be done with a PTO pump and your tractor, but I think you might have to have the reservoir and cooler on a platform attached to your 3PH. That and independent hoses and controls for the PHD since I don't think the TC30's third function control can handle the flow required unless you get one with much larger ports than you will need for something like a grapple which loves low flow and high pressure. Maybe someone who actually owns a hydraulic PHD will see your post and respond. You might post direct questions in the general "Attachments" forum.

Please don't take my word as "gospel" on this. Seek out an expert and get their advice. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

PTO Hydraulic pump with controls & cooler on a platform!

Is that a challenge Jim? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Sounds like a fun project when I can justify other applications it would service as well. Fortunately I don't need speed as much as ability for any implements. I am suppose to be retiring, doesn't that mean LESS and SLOWER, but with QUALITY? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I didn't want too large of tractor and figured the TC30 met all my immediate needs and I could "McGyver" the others...stay tuned to this channel... /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Okay, here is a list of things done to date with the new tractor.

Finished spreading gravel for driveway to new workshop.

Lifted and hauled several logs (too large for hand work) from various locations to a central cutting splitting area.

Hauled 3 whole trees (30+ feet each) up side of hill for cutting splitting.

Lifted and relocated a trailer using the 3 pt.

Went down to the stream and used loader to harvest a couple large stones for the wife's garden.

I love the HST! What a dream to use, plenty of power even at 1200 ROM and rarely had to increase RPM to 2000 to accomplish any of the above jobs. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

3 hours logged over the weekend. It was a beautiful weekend for outdoor work here in Western NC. Monday turned wet and rainy, but I was done with what I wanted to do.

Fuel gauge hasn't budged...either that is great economy or gauge is not working...I believe the former.

Practiced using the quick detach/attach mechanism, bucket came off and on with ease. Looking forward to more front end implements (fork/grapple/boom pole for sure).

I have several pics to download and post, stand by for them.
