As I read this post, that tractor had already been purchased by you & you've stated there were other dealers that you thought were better. I would say go somewhere else to purchase. If I'm seeing this accurately, the dealer loaned out property that was no longer his. That wouldn't set right with me. The radiator fluid is low, I wouldn't run my car like that & I sure don't want my tractor run like that. These things indicate poor desicion making & poor attention to detail on prep. Since you've stated this wasn't your preferred dealer why continue? Do you think you've seen them at their worst or do you feel this is average?

( Sounds very reasonable to me. I'd just keep the tractor. 11 hours is nothing. I assume you'll get the right size tiller. How do you know the radiator was down half and just not a little ways? I can't see into mine very far. Did it take a lot of fluid to refill. Just my thoughts. )

Except I checked the dates of the fair. It was a Th/Fr/Sa/Su fair. The friday of that week was the day I saw it at the dealers lot with 0.7 hours on it. I suppose they could have brought it to the fair just on sat/sun and put 11 hours on it somehow, but I think its more likely they are not being totally truthful, and they did mention 4 days at the fair. I think I am through with them.

Gerard,
I still chose to stand by my thoughts and Andys. I also chose to be more trusting, until someone proves that my trust is misplaced. This is a much better way to view my fellow man, than to be cynical about every single thing that comes up in life or on this forum.

A few people have mentioned that 11 hours is not that much and should'nt be worried about. That may be true, but I don't look at machinery usage like a farmer or business owner would. When I was looking at new tractors, I was offered a Demo with 50 hrs on it. The demo was discounted $250 and the dealer was quite puzzled as to why I did not want that particular unit with the discount. I explained that while $250 was a nice discount on an otherwise new unit, it was a year old in my eyes. You see, from past experience, I know that I only put 30 to 40 hours on a tractor in a year. So, this tractor, to me, was already over a year old. It just did'nt give me a warm feeling.

What am I saying? Make sure that you are happy with your tractor. If the 11 hours and overheating suspicion bothers you today, you'll probably never feel good about it.

I think this is one of the culture differences that traditional tractor dealers have to understand. They might not agree with it, but I think they have to understand it as do the manufacturers if they want to keep their customers happy.

The only frame of reference most people moving 'up' to a CUT from a garden tractor have is buying a car. There's a certain number of miles we can accept on a vehicle and still call it new. Over a certain number of miles and we call it a demo unit or a used vehicle. Based upon spencer200's post, New Holland considers anything with less than 12 hours still new. Therefore, in this situation, the dealer might not believe he did anything 'wrong'.

Based upon the number of people who admit to waxing their tractors (sorry, I don't understand this practice /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif) this same frame of reference results in CUT buyers getting upset if their tractor or attachment does not have a perfect paint job.

These 2 different frames of reference result in different expectations and does not necessarily indicate dishonesty. Hence, my recommendation to explain to this dealer what the concerns were and not assume he was being dishonest.

11 hours may not sound like much - but believe me, it's a good amount of seat time. I can move a lot process or fill in 10+ hours of tractor time. There are just too many things wrong with this delivery. The wrong size implement, no assistance with it's features, the low coolant, and mystery hours. It sure isn't Normal, and I'd be working on some sort of agreement with the dealer to be made right.

Hopefully it's just a bump in the road to an overall great tractor experience. Good Luck!

It's pretty hard to have much of a working relationship with someone if you can't trust them. I think this is the question you need to answer to yourself. If you can't, get your money back and walk away. If you feel you can, either take the offer of another new tractor or work something with them where you are comfortable with your decision. There are two sides to every story, but from what I'm reading I don't think you will ever be comfortable with the dealer. Your call.
