Oil & Fuel tc40a power steering fluid help

Your image didn't post because part of the tag was missing. Here it is.

Where does the hose/pipe I marked with arrows go? I think somebody has routed your PS so it draws from the main hydraulic reservoir instead of having it's own reservoir. You don't have to change the PS filter because you are using the main reservoir for both PS and Main hydraulic. What year is your tractor? I've never seen this before. . . my DUH!;)

i am guessing someone before me removed it? in the picture below i see two holes next to the air filter assy. i am guessing thats where it should be? so how do i drain my system now? how do I get it to the correct level?

the line you had an arrow to goes to the steering gear

Look at the photo below. The PS pump is the small one. It has a line on the bottom that goes to the steering motor in the steering column. The line on the top goes to the reservoir. You need to follow both of these lines on your tractor and tell us where they go. It's impossible for both of them to go to the steering motor.

He probably doesn't have the reservoir. I forget what year or model number change it occured on but the reservoir was discontinued on the Class III models. His steering system is probably supplied from a barbed nipple on top of the hyd pump.

Thanks Wrenchguy. It looks like I'm the one with egg on my face.:ashamed: I didn't see any change shown on the illustrated parts catalog. There's no reason the PS pump couldn't draw fluid from the supply at the top of the main pump, but the photos don't clearly show that area. If GRI can get a photo of the pumps from the same angle as my photo, that might be helpful to see the routing.

EDIT: Well the egg is coming off my face a bit. The diagrams for the TC40A standard tractor do not show the change in 2006 for the PS Pump plumbing. However the TC40DA HST model diagrams do show the change.

GRI, you do have the gear version of the TC40 instead of the HST version, don't you? Actually, I remember seeing your pictures of your chainsaw carrier and toolbox, so I know you have the TC40A model. CNH diagrams are just screwed up online and don't show this change for the standard tractor that I've found.

All three of those lines go to my steering box. There is a forth that comes from the top of the main hydraulic pump.

We need photos. The top of the main hydraulic pump is suction. If you can take a picture at the same angle as my photo, it would be clear just how the routing is done. I think there is a line from the top of the main pump to the top of the PS pump (suction). The only reason this would attach to the steering box is to drain excess fluid from the steering box that would normally go to the PS reservoir that has been removed. The line at the bottom of the PS pump is pressure to the steering box and the two other lines are the feed to the hydraulic steering cylinder on your front axle. These two lines can be pressure or suction depending on whether you are turning left or right.

i wonder if there was a concerted move to get rid of seperate fluid resevoirs? i know my 00 7610s gets it's ps pressure from the prioity pack / hyd valving beside the seat for the deluxe remotes.

ps.. not the first cnh diagram I've seen that is not 100% appropriate for all models it suposedly covers.. :)
