i wonder if there was a concerted move to get rid of seperate fluid resevoirs? i know my 00 7610s gets it's ps pressure from the prioity pack / hyd valving beside the seat for the deluxe remotes.

ps.. not the first cnh diagram I've seen that is not 100% appropriate for all models it suposedly covers.. :)

I would bet it was the result of a "value engineering" seminar where CNH was trying to eliminate pieces and scrape every nickel of profit off the top. From my viewpoint, having an isolated PS system means if I ever hit a hidden obstruction and develop a leak in the PS cylinder, I'd know it right away when the PS reservoir is pumped dry. In this instance, you could easily pump your entire hydraulic reservoir dry. Of course, the HST already shares the main reservoir sump, so adding the PS to the mix doesn't seem such a big deal.

I took a picture and for some reason I can load it from my droid. I will post it in a bit

I bet you are correct.

here is the picture. the three small lines go to the steering box.
the big line goes right back to the hydraulic filter below the seat.

the fourth hose you cant see in the picture but is to the left of the big line and goes to the steering box as well. that line comes out of the hydraulic pump, if that is what that is to the left of the ps pump

That's exactly what I expected to see. Yes, the big line goes to the hydraulic filter, but it also is attached to the main hydraulic pump. About 2/3 the way to the filter, there's a rubber "T" in the line and that goes to the HST also. This is the suction line for all hydraulic services.

The smaller line that that goes to the steering box and connects to the main hydraulic pump is for returning excess fluid from the steering system. Each side of the PS hydraulic cylinder does not take the same amount of fluid. It takes more to extend the cylinder than to retract it. So, the excess fluid has to be allowed to return to the system. The way they do that is to just drop that fluid into the suction side of the main hydraulic system.

Ding Ding give that man a Cgar! It was definately an engineering cost saving that we implimented in late 06 and 07. It eliminated the use of a filter for the Hyd. steering, a flange, hose, and 2 clamps! The upside it was cheaper and you never have to change the filter or the fluid out. The down side, it uses fluid off of the main sump and will lag under a strain. i.e.if you are using the lift and the hst pedals together it wont turn as fast or may not turn at all. But if you are hearing noise while turning the wheel it is likely your pump under the steering column. Good luck.:)
