TC40D 4wd drive problem

When that happens does it usually shear off some of the teeth from the ring gear? What other damage typically ocurs?

Depending on the circumstances, just a cleanup & new hardware, or as bad as ring & pinion as well as the diff carrier and gears if enough metal filings have run through them. I don't think I've ever seen a split housing. The longer they run loose the more damage occurs.

Can someone tell me how to split the differential? I don't have a service manual.
If you take the bolts out holding the left side can you slide the whole assembly off , housing,hub,shaft,etc, without taking the hub apart?
Or can somone tell me the best way?

As far as I remember you can pull it apart by taking the bolts near the pumpkin out.

I split the front end the differential housing had 7 broke bolts there was only 1left. I could easily take it out with a socket. I got all the broken bolts out and there was thread mark inside the housing telling me they have been coming lose for a while. On the only bolt left that I took out had about 15 degree angle on the head telling me again the bolt were backing out.
It looks like I need all 8 bolts plus housing. I think new holland should take care of this that to me is a defect.

I just bought a 2007 TC35DA. Is this problem something I have to worry about, or did NH fix it in my year of tractor? Love the site and I love my NH TCS35DA. I decided on NH after comparing Masey Furgeson, John Deere, & NH. Also NH deaer is a customer of mine, so I know I can trust them! I am going to pick it up tomrrow from the dealer. They installed my rear remotes, brushguard, & 250TL loader. I can't wait to push some snow. also ordered a new 74CSR NH rear snow blower.

Congratulations on that new tractor. Be sure to post up some pictures after it is delivered. We know what it looks like, but we love the pictures anyhow.

I would not worry about the front differential. Ask your dealer's service manager how many of these tractors have had problems and how many he has seen in his shop. I think his answer will be none or very few. Hopefully, you will never experience a problem. I have not, and I have over 1300 hours on my tractor.

I have a TC40D and lost the drive to the front wheels and took it to a dealer and the bolts were sheared off the ring gear. I have not got my tractor back but the dealer said they sold alot of these tractors and this is the first one to come in with this problem.

Thanks for the email and posting this info Yardstick. Can you tell us a little about how you use your tractor and how many hours are on it?

I always use my tractor on dirt and grass. When working on level areas, I try to stay in 2wd most of the time and also use 2wd when I'm driving on a gravel road. I have 1400 hours on my tractor with no similar problems yet.
