Turned on the big screens today and had many new chanels... Military Chanel, always wanted it, History Internal, plus many more! This is Direct TV and my daughter says these are teasers and will go away soon, just trying to get you hooked to sign on for more. Some days, 50 chanels and nothing on to watch! I will enjoy this weekend but will not sign on for more!

Yep, Mark, we've got all those channels, and paying a ridiculous monthly amount, and most of the time, I still can't find anything on there I want to watch.:(

Cancel DTV and wait about 3 months. They'll start pestering you for your business back and offer some sweet deals.

Mark, The thing is when you first see these channels, they're great. All new stuff to you. If you sign up for them it will become the same crap shown over and over. Use the free time and enjoy.

A friend of mine mentioned a site called Hulu which seems to (legitimately) have a ton of TV shows and movies - no registration required unless you want to keep track of specific shows. When I moved I never bothered to sign up for TV service, this site makes that an even better decision than sending a bunch of money to Comcast or DirecTV every month. There's also a program called PlayOn that can stream the site to an XBox 360 or PS3 so you can watch on the TV.

Perhaps you can find some of the shows you saw during the preview there (assuming you've got a reasonably fast Internet connection). And nothing prevents you from checking out DirecTV's online channel guide to see what's on :)

I like all the military and history channels. It is quite true that after a while its the same stuff over and over but they do get new stuff out from time to time.

I'm on a trial period with them as well and doubt that I'd stay on just for them. But, there is a show called TopGear on BBC America that I just love. I might keep the optional channels just for it.

I use the Dish Network Satellite and all the military, history, and hunting channels are with the basic supscription. I even get a few science channels standard.

They may be in the basic subscription for mine too, I have no idea, but I do know that the BBC America is in the optional package.
