Wow - those posts were over three years ago! But I'm still using that same set of belts today, so yes, I believe the increased diameter idler has made a significant improvement to belt life.

The rest of the machine is thoughtfully designed, very well made, and functions nicely, so I'm still puzzled by their engineering decision to use such a small diameter OEM idler.

I just purchased a used WC88 off of FB Marketplace. The seller included a new set of belts, and said something like, "Here, you'll need these." I was surprised because on my old chipper (Bearcat) I've never changed the belt. Then when going over my new-to-me WC88 I was surprised at the radius of the belts at the idler, and at about that moment discovered the belts are coming apart on the inside. Found your old post when I searched on it.

Slow down the intake roller to the slowest speed and the chipper works much better. It will reduce the heavy tension on the belts, run better and last longer.
I run the chipper at about the lowest infeed speed. Very few feed issues as long as I don't feed "wishbone" style limbs into it.

I've been chipping (seasonally) about 5 years and never changed a belt.

I had and sold a Chinese chipper some years ago and never had a belt issue with it but I kept them fiddle string tight at all times and kept the pillow blocks well greased. Sold it for what I paid for it in about 2 hours on FBMP and I ran it on the back of one of my 90 horse Kubota's, which is why the base is so high up so I could run the pto driveline reasonably straight.

it is one of the reasons I chose the WC68 over the WC88. If ever the hydraulics went south I could just plumb the drive roller to my remote hydraulics and keep the flywheel going with the PTO shaft. but the pto drives the Pump on the WC88.
