I had decent luck finding a reasonable rate using uShip.com when I bought my tractor. Now, the independent driver the shipper ended up using for the delivery had his moments (no damage, just delays due to silly mistakes on his part), but the price was significantly lower than the couple individual shippers I had quotes from before taking bids.

You take your chances with anything, but you do get the option to choose who you want from the bids you get.

Edit: OK, this seems way off topic since it came up on a new page, but is focused on the sub-thread about shipping leftover materials for the project :)

Sam,

I contacted OD Trucking and they only service commercial customers. I got a quote from Fed EX of 962.50 for the 9 containers @ 360 lbs. This seems way too much... Any suggestions?

FYI..... We made up our own PEX manifolds for only a fraction of the cost. Also plan on making the PEX manifold for the water distribution as well.

Bob

Bob, can you explain the plumbing? Looks like a setup for Solar as well as water distro...

I will check around. That seams criminal. I could purchase new for $65 x 9 + 100 (freight) $685

There has got to be a reasonable way to ship.

System plumbing is for radiant floor and shut offs for adding a future heating coil / zone.

Here's our poor mans pex water distribution manifold.

I just had a shipment of two generators ordered from Sam's Club online. The carrier was R+L Carriers and they do LTL shipments for anyone. Here is a link to their site. I think you can get your materials shipped for less than $300 through them. That makes it less than half price of purchased new, so that should work for you.

BTW: That was estimated on a 48" l x 48" w x 18" h and 360 lb, frt. class 70.

Sam,

I am at 16801 in State College PA.
I ran a quote at
R+L Carriers LTL Rate Quote
I am not sure about the class or weight? I guess we could hand load/unload. Would we need a pallet? This looks reasonable.
Item Weight Rate Charge
Class: 50 395 $140.52 $555.05
Gross Charge 395 $555.05
R+L Discount Saves This Much 65% -$360.78
Discounted Freight Charge $194.27
Fuel Surcharge 21.40% $41.57

Standard Service Net Charges $235.84

Ahh, Stego wrap and the high dollar red tape sure bring back memories. That is some good stuff, especially the thicker wrap.

For what it is worth (probably not much) I favor putting chases in the basement walls prior to the pour. It was a few years before I got around to using one of the ones I put in for adding a patio BBQ gas outlet but it sure make gas easy to run.

Another lead to a little "fun" as I used an engine driven pump with 2 inch water hose to turn my back fill sand into a slurry as an alternative to using small lifts and a vibratory plate compactor. I overflowed one of the open chases and put a wheelbarrow load of sand into the basement. I also recommend more chases than you think you need as it is easier to plug an unused one than to drill another and worry about hitting rebar after the concrete has curred.
