Testing a hydraulic pump

The three point hitch always seems to work. The heaviest I have had on it is the rototiller and it has always lifted it fine. I don't know how heavy it is compared to the FEL assembly though, but it seems pretty heavy. I agree the pump is good. I'm still really new to this tractor and hydraulic stuff and I am learning so great stuff along the way.

Keep us updated today when you rebuild the cylinders. Look at the cylinder walls for scoring too while you have them taken apart.

That is a neat little tractor, could have used it last week working on a project in the pine trees.

I took apart the bucket cylinders today and found the problem. My seals are blown on both pistons. I took them to my hydraulic place and they don't have those in stock. I should have the parts needed by Monday and I'll post results of how the bucket works after that, I assume it's gonna be like a new machine.

My FEL only has 3 cylinders, I already rebuild the bucket tilt cylinder. This is both bucket lift cylinders, so they should all line new. I'm pretty stoked to run it once it gets all put back together!

Are the cylinder walls scored? Those pistons look rough. If the cylinder bores are rough they will eat the new packing.

What size and type cylinders do you have?

I looked in both cylinders and I couldn't see any marring or scoring that looked obvious. I asked the hydraulic guys I get cylinder packing from and from looking at the piston it didn't appear to need replaced as I was concerned of the same thing.

Holy smokes people, does this thing move some dirt now! Before I would only be able to sink my FEL in a couple inches then I wouldn't be able to lift my bucket. So I would only skim the top as best as I could until I hopefully got enough dirt worth while to move. And if I did get enough dirt worth while to move I wouldn't be able to lift it.

I still have to skim since I don't have a big tractor but I can skim deeper and lift my bucket when needed and get a bucket full of dirt. It's a lot easier to manipulate the bucket in the dirt when needed to get more dirt. I can lift the bucket full of dirt over the dirt pile now as well.

Thanks for all your help on the issue being "bypass"! I never knew what it was and I never would have suspected it either since my bucket lift pistons didn't leak.

You guys rock, I hope I can contribute to others as well.

That's great! Another lowly hydraulic pump vindicated.
