No, but here's some cheap alternatives to fuses:

When I worekd on high rise construction as an elecrician (apprentice) we used to short out circuits rather then looking for the panels. It was scary to see how hard it was to blow some 15 amp circuits! I would put my money on the protection of fuses over breakers any time.

Has anyone ever encountered a counterfeit breaker?
Not exactly counterfeit, but back in the early 80's Federal Pacific was purchased by Reliance Electric. When Reliance began snooping around the company they had just purchased, they found FP was taking circuit breakers off the assembly line and modifying/calibrating them to work correctly before sending them to UL for testing. FP executives were eventually sued by Reliance Electric because of this.

One thought thought for anyone who may be thinking of trying to carry out a high current trip test - if you apply a significant excess load at the wall socket, that is fine if the breaker is working, but you also need to consider what would happen if it doesn't trip. The test load would have to be removed pretty quick, or else the cable insulation will start to degrade as the copper in the cable rappidly heats up. If in any doubt, I would fit another breaker, instead of trying to perform a test.

s219 - When my daughter was a year older than yours, she walked up to a Christmas tree and sucked one of the light bulbs (this was before most Christmas lights used LEDs). The add-on ground fault protection in the plug tripped before I could get to her. She had a very surprised expression, then tears, but no permanent harm. From that day on I have made sure that all our plug circuits have ground fault interrupters.

Has anyone ever encountered a counterfeit breaker?

Just googled 'counterfeit circuit breakers' and it seems like all the major manufacturers have information on how to spot their genuine breaker. Leads me to believe this is a bigger problem than I thought. Think I'll go check the ones I installed in my shop two years ago.
