Texas Fall/Winter thread!

Headed to Glen Rose yesterday morning. Had to go thru Granbury. There is a park along the way, and it already had all sorts of Christmas decorations up. Still a bit early for me to want to see them, or hear the music. I like to finish one holiday, before seeing the next. Luckily, my radio station isn't playing holiday stuff, just Texas Country!

Lou; On my journeys this morning, I saw a lot of pastures that are cut, and they'll likely be baling today and/or tomorrow. I was going to ask you if it was too late to do that, since we had the hard freeze last week. :confused3: Would there be any nutrition in the hay, or is it just filler for cattle, at this point?

Breaktime is over. Back to the grind for me!

We were in the Grapevine Mills Outlet Mall this morning, and they already have a live Santa Claus and all the other decorations to make pictures of the kids with Santa Claus.

Incidentally, the J.C. Penney store (JC's 5 star outlet, they call it) has signs everywhere; Going Out of Business Sale, All Sales Final, No Returns, Cash & Credit Cards, but No Checks. 30% to 60% off the outlet price. I thought it odd that they also had a sign trying to hire both full time and part time help. I asked a lady at the Customer Service counter and she said they plan to close the end of December; i.e., after Christmas.

Weather has been so nice I started on my cattle pens again,finally got the outsides done,now for the interior lay-out.

Hey man, that looks great! Built a few of those that's for sure. I see you went square tubing, what, ya chicken:laughing: I never thought about the ST, always used the drill stem. Is this a cutting/loading pen? if so, wait until you see the prices of headgates OMG!!

Yeah my main working pen. The top rail is 2&3/8's and the other is 4in. channel. The channel has worked out great and got it for .86ft new and drill stem was $1ft used but don't have any problem welding it. I have a squeeze chute with headgate,its not new but still works,need to repaint. I am thinking about having someone come in to sandblast and paint everything,surely someone around here does that.

101.9 in San Antonio switched over to 24 hour Christmas Carols on Friday, 11/15. Waay too early for my tastes. I'll tune in about December 24.

I think you may come out WAYY cheaper getting some OSPHO and treating then painting it yourself. We sandblast and on the cheap, it starts @ $4 ft.
OSPHO is great stuff. I have used it for over 20 years probably. Ospho Rust Treatment - Since 1947

I dont think I'd do anything to the chute other than some paint.

I didn't get a freeze down here,, did get into the low 40s.. that's like a freeze this far south.. yea the protein is gone.. but most of what I baled this year.. was stemie,, with little protein in it.. no rain,, no growth,, so back to the protein drums.. 14% for the cow and 21% for the horses.. I only have one horse so she shares.. with my five cows,, last year I had 35 head of cattle and 5 head of horses and ten round bales,, this year I have 100 round bales and 6 heads.. When will the math work out.:confused3::laughing:. Lou

Thanks Dennis,I may do the Ospho myself and find someone with paint sprayer,cause hand painting aint happening
Do you have to brush it on or a pump-up hand sprayer work?

Foreman, you can brush it on or use a paint mitt. When I do pipe, I usually use paint brush and old T shirt while wearing those rubber dish gloves. Sometimes you need to do 2 coats if it has scaly rust, but I have only had to do that once or twice, it's great stuff.

You could paint it yourself in an afternoon, either use a paint mitt and brushes, or re
nt/borrow one of them wagner sprayers.
