Cross our fingers on the wind. Relative Humidity is at 24% according to Pete Delkus. It is certainly dry enough for an explosive fire outbreak if the winds kick up.

Looks like a cool front possibly by Thursday next week, down to 101.

Noticed all the DOT electric highway signs, are asking for electricity conservation, also noticed (in light of all the water restrictions popping up) Still copious amounts of water going in the drains throughout the metro mess as sprinklers waste away.

107 degrees and 22% humidity in Denton, according to the NWS. I guess all towns are required to have a drought contingency plan and I noticed the beginning of ours went into effect July 14:
Effective Immediately - City Implements Stage 1 - Drought Contingency Plan

Upper Trinity Water District and the local media have been reporting the widespread drought that's affecting the entire state of Texas. Locally, the high temperatures and increased water demands are putting stress on facilities providing our water supply. It is the goal of the City of Corinth, with voluntary action by the City and its' customers to reduce the stress of triggering conditions and achieve a 1% reduction in total water usage. Please take every opportunity to reduce and conserve your water usage.

In other words, no restrictions at all; just ask folks to reduce and conserve.

Texas keeps making the news way over the other side of the continent, up the Pacific coast in Canada. They did another TV news story today at noon about the many days of over 100 degree weather and all that it entails for you folks down there. We at least are finally getting mostly sun and into the mid and upper 70's. Got to 79F this afternoon. About 3-4 days ago it was 8.9C or 48F at 6:45AM but did warm up later that day. Been cutting the grass every week and haven't watered it yet, the growth of it should slow down now that we are into our warmer and drier weather patter. Been a killer buying gas for the lawn tractor, I cut a LOT of grass around here. The past couple of days we have had the heat pump on in the afternoon as keeping the windows open upstairs in not enough to cool the house down for us. I'm sure one day, week or month the weather gods will be good to you and bring cooler and wet weather for you. :) :) :)

Awhile back I was driving down the road and noticed a bunch a smoke coming from a field. Didn't think nothing of it other than they were just burning the field.

Then on the 1st as I was heading down the highway into town. I noticed that a hay baler was burnt to a crisp. The hay baler must have caught on fire and they disconnected the tractor from it before it could get the tractor.

I wish I could have got a picture of it but didn't have my camera at the time.

The fire destroyed the baler.

Careful, you may end up with a million Texans wanting to "stay over" and I doubt your local "bar" could handle that many:D

Dennis, that Armadillo is what you get for watering the yard. I've seen them tear up pretty lawns, but the folks who get the most upset are when they tear up the greens on golf courses.

Charlie, is it a very old house? My grandparents bought a house in 1943 that was built in 1921-22. It had some basement, but then my granddad dug out more, poured concrete himself, etc. so they had electric lights, the washer/dryer, and even a gas cookstove down there.

Bird, it was build in '85 I think, but it was built on a sloping hill so I think that's the reason for the basement, that and the fact that the house has a very small footprint. My wife the yankee loves it and so do I. I might have to try cooking a lite meal on the stove top this winter.

My Dad bought a house over in Beckly Heights in Oak Cliff once for a rental property that was probably that vintage that had a full basement and a huge ground floor. It was a really neat house.

Here in Oregon we have a 3 month drought every summer, though not as hot as Texas. If you want to keep your grass green with a minimum of water, give it a shot of nitrogen and let it grow about 4" tall. Set your lawnmower way up.

Larry that is a good reminder on the best grass height.

Finally we started getting some rain here this morning between the MS River and KY Lake region.
