Texas Heat!

My weatherbug said 105 today, man is this never going to end? What a summer. It is showing 56% humidity, but everything is so dry I'm not sure that makes any difference.

They got the wildfire above Bowie under control pretty quickly. It's a whole lot easier to fight fires when they are mostly grass fires in open fields. This was nothing like the central TX fires with dense forest and undergrowth in rough terrain. Here, it's just a case of getting enough firefighters to control the perimeter and keep it from expanding. There's not much smoldering except in isolated groves of oak, mesquite, and cedar. Smoke over hwy 287 and hwy 81 holding up traffic was an extreme PIB, but better to be parked on the highway than be in an accident in the middle of a wildfire. Here's a link to a photo I found of the fire between Bowie and Bellevue. We are also getting light sprinkles of rain this morning. Nothing to swamp Bird's gage yet, but we'll take it anyhow.:)

Rain chances actually up to 40% for today!!, then 20% for the next few days. I hope we get some kind of normal Fall pattern started. I usually have oats planted by now for my food plot, but have been putting it off, hopefully we can get enough moisture to get deep into the ground.

Jim, they said that fire was at 5,000 acres , was that a correct estimation you think? If so, must have moved very fast with yesterday's winds.

Yes Dennis, the wind was gusting and the fire was just raging across fields of bone dry grass. It must have been going up like flash paper. It probably looked like somebody had poured liquid fire out of a bucket as it spread across the prairie. Luckily, our fire crews prevailed.

You got that right Jim!. Those guy's earn there lunch for sure:thumbsup:

I just came back from Azle, there was a light rain (YEAH) and yet going through Springtown, they were fighting a small roadside fire across the road from the high school. Wet roads all the way until 1/2 mile from my house:mad:

Looks like it will be hit and miss, but at least it's cooler today.

Dennis, it rained here today. Before daylight I got about .01" and between 9 and 11 a.m. another .02" maybe. It's better than nothing, but not much better.

Did that run your new rain gauge over? Maybe next time you need a six pack of gauges.

   / Texas Heat! #1,090
Oh no, my new rain gauge is at least 3 or 4 times as deep as it needs to be.

Keep your fingers crossed ... weather.com shows thru next week up to 60% chance and cool temps for my area. Here's hoping that your rain gauge floats way down stream.

Hundredths; not tenths, Dennis.

 So much for my new bifocals Bird!!

Don, you would have had to been here while it was raining:laughing: The anticipation lasted longer than the rain and the smell was gone fast too.

Do not try to steal hay during a drought in Lee County, you could get shot with an AK 47.
Hay Thief Suffers Gun Shot Wound | www.lexingtonleader.com | Lexington Leader

At $100-$125 a bale up here, I can see the rancher getting upset. Looks like that thief's livestock are more expensive than he thought!!

That the way stuff like that should be handled. Just should have shot a little better.

:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Hey Jim!!
