Texas rains, don't this beat all

We had a storm come through here Friday night that droped 2 1/2 inches in a few hours. Massive thunder that shook the house and all sorts of lightning!!! It was pretty intense and allot of fun, but what's interesting is that just 30 minutes away, it never rained at all.

Eddie, we had rain in the forecast and I'd promised a neighbor I'd mow his yard while they're out of town, so Friday morning, I started early and hurried to get it mowed. And it started raining just as I finished. But it barely got everything wet; maybe .03" and it was over.

I wish there was something we could do. We were in the sme situation in 1979. We were living on the Dickinson Bayou and were out of town when there was a record rainfall. I have heard reports of as much as 40" in 24 hours in the Alvin area on the watershed.

My lucky streak of rain came to a screaching halt. After 2 weeks of no rain the ground surface is starting to crack but moisture is ok 6" down.

I'll be driving into the teeth of Tropical Storm North Texas tomorrow. Going to Richardson for my brother's 50th wedding anniversery. So I checked the NWS forecast & see 60% chance for rain thru Saturday - - they didn't mess with the words, just said 'heavy rains'. Guess I'll be getting wet.

Yeah, Jack, but that forecast means there's a 40% chance you won't see a drop. We have that same 60% chance in the forecast for today, but so far no sign of any rain. I hurried to mow both of our daughters' yards this morning and thought I might get wet, but it didn't happen.

BT - - a quick trip - - drive Friday, the 50th to do Saturday, then back home Sunday. Whew - - wish I could stretch it longer, but my wife has an expensive date with a dentist early next week.

Bird - - my brother has been fussing about finding good times to cut his yard. He said the rains tomorrow were supposed to be more to the south. Got a couple of umbershutes, just in case.

However, with a 40% chance of rain yesterday that never happened, I mowed my yard, and today with a 60% chance of rain that hasn't happened here yet, I mowed one daughter's yard in Irving, and the other daughter's yard in Coppell.

If it wasn't so far over there, I'd sure mow it and let you pay me in fresh veggies. And we've gotten a few sprinkles of rain so far this morning; not quite enough to get the pavement wet, but it might before the day's over.
