Ahh, the yellow rose of Texas. You seem to be lacking in field flowers as much as I'm lacking in grasses.

I have that bloomin' bloomin' prickly pear all over my place, or maybe I should have said that stinkin' bloomin' prickly pear. My gullies are spotted all over with prickly pear, sensitive briar, and purple coneflower. I noticed yesterday that almost every coneflower has some type of butterfly on it.

There's cultivated flowers in peoples' flower beds here and there, but it sure looks like the wildflowers are through for the year in this area, and the grass and weeds along the roads are already brown like you would expect in late summer. They've finally started mowing highway right-of-ways and some places the vegetation is about waist high and brown.

I wait until my bluebonnet seed pods dry and open before running my rotary cutter over them. When mother nature starts to plant them, I give her a helpin' hand. I haven't seen any ROW mowing in this area yet. It often looks like a fire hazard before they mow, but the bluebonnets seem to like them waiting a bit. They also say that the seeds of indian paintbrush are so small that the wind can carry them. I hope to spread them out too. Right now, most of my yuccas are in bloom and yellow flower season is coming on strong. I think from Don's photos that his yellow flower season is already there in Lee County.

We cut 2 5 gal buckets of the cactus leaves, and will go back for the pears later. It looks like I will have a prickly pear patch next year if my lovely wife has anyting to do with it. She didn't like wading through the grass hunting them down.

Well I believe we got enough rain to desolve the fertilizer, we may just get that cutting of hay this time around:thumbsup:

They've finally started mowing highway right-of-ways and some places the vegetation is about waist high and brown.

They are mowing the ROWs on I35 on the way to Okla City, but where there are thick patches of Indian blanket and Indian paintbrush, they are mowing around them.:thumbsup:
