Geez Bird ... I just told Cher 2941 miles .. She said "I'd rather be bit by a snake"!!

:laughing:Well, I don't think it was quite as bad as being snakebit, but I do plan on it being the last time I do anything like that trip. My wife wanted to make one last trip in this lifetime to where she was born and raised, and wanted to show our 10 year old granddaughter some interesting sights, such as:
Vicksburg National Military Park
Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine
New River Gorge Bridge
Bluestone Dam on the New River
Pipestem State Park in West Virginia

Brandi-Congrats on the New Family Member. What's his name? He doesn't realize, yet, what a lucky dog he is.

I'm ready for some Fall Weather. The Texas Sun sure takes the Starch out of me this time of year. I'm completely soaking through 2 T-shirts a day. Sure look forward to the Cold Beverage at the end of the day.

Charlie,
I am not going to get him. I heard from my vet. friend last night and was told the Husky would not be able to stay outside all day with me because of the heat. I want a dog that will be with me outside ..........................whatever the weather.
His name is Flurry. He's in San Antonio is anyone here wants a cool-cold weather dog.

Brandi--Sorry that the dog deal fell through. Good luck in the Puppy Prowl. My wife sez no more long hair dogs as our Lab/German shepherd mix sheds a bunch........year round, and I agree.

There's not many things better than a Good Dog, and over the years we have been blessed with a lot of Good Dogs and a couple of Great Ones.

Yep, it's hard to replace a Great one. Booger was my best dog ever.

If your dogs are like ours, you will never replace Booger. But you will find a new friend who will fill the void in his/her own way. AT least that's how I view it. Speaking of which, it's been enough time-need to find a big dog to occupy Abby's (our departed Rhodesian) section of the bed.

I got a new John Deere T-shirt this past weekend! I'll wear it mostly with jeans and shorts, but a friend came by and we decided to go for a swim, so I used it as a cover-up over the ****** too!

Life is a crazy, these days!!! Sorry that I am not around much, but I am much too busy to be sitting on my tush, this summer. I sure hope that winter stays away for a LONG time!!

OK, at this time of the year the Doldrums have set in. A big High pressure bubble settles in over Texas and the weather never changes. Hot & Dry, Hot & Dry, Hot & Dry. I still watch the weather reports in the morning(for no apparent reason). The heat just never goes away and I know it's hard to notice, but I get Grumpier(it could happen).

I keep having flashbacks of the summer of 1980 (morning lows-92*, day time highs 113*.......for 69 days) but that's no help(just proves that it can get worse). And I dream of a road-trip to Red River, NM, (where the natives complain of a day time high of 85*), but for reasons I don't understand I can't seem to pull it off.

My Goal would be to spend the whole month of August in Red River. I can put up with June & July most of the time, but when the Gardens gone(burnt UP) so am I...........You can't really grow tomatoes at 8000 ft.

OK I got that rant out of my system, Thanks.

Charlie, for as long as I can remember, I've hated the month of August. Sounds like you and I are much alike on our opinions of summer.

Only reason I dislike august is cause I get a year older every time it comes around on the 10th. We just back in from small vacation to Great Wolf Lodge for couple days. Also took the boy to Lego land, the aquarium and Bass Pro for myself. Glad be back at home, jumped on tractor and laid 10acres hay down.

What Tractor?

Charlie

Charlie,
The problem with the photo is the tractor is just another green tractor and blends into the background.:indifferent: The photo needs a RED tractor to accent the subject.:laughing::cool:

We've driven by the Great Wolf Lodge many, many times, but never been in. And we visit the Grapevine Mills Outlet Mall frequently and have noticed crowds and lines at the Lego Land place, but again have never been in. We've also wondered whether the aquarium is worth what it costs; maybe in October when my wife's sister is here. But my wife's favorite store was the J.C. Penney store that's gone now. And I used to practice on the Bass Pro indoor pistol range once or twice a month, but I've quit carrying, so I've quit practicing.

Bird,
We still have a JC Penney down here in Conroe. Mom always shopped there. It's the only store she bought our school clothes at, putting them in the layaway when we were with her in the summer on Grandma and her Tuesday shopping trips. It was always Tuesday because Weingardens gave double Big Bonus stamps on Tuesdays.

Brandi, we still have J.C. Penney stores in the Golden Triangle Mall in Denton and in the Vista Ridge Mall in Lewisville, but the one that was in the Grapevine Mills Mall had more inventory and better prices. We liked it better than the ones we still have.

And yep, I grew up with some clothes from J.C. Penney in Ardmore, OK. In fact, I still remember going there when I was 15 years old and bought my first store bought shirts; 3 of them to take with me to the Stamps Quartet School of Music in Dallas that summer. Until then, all my shirts were either made by my mother or were gifts.

But from the first grade on, in school, I got 3 new pair of blue jeans to start school each Fall. And I think they probably all came from J.C. Penney.
