Watching the 5 P.M. news it looked like all the rain would miss us with only a 10% chance then the winds came and between 5:45pm and 6:30pm we got 2" and my dangerous tree on the road in the woods fell to the ground. Yea! Another job scratched off the list.

OK this new TBN has got me a little furmish this morning.

We got a 1/2 inch yesterday morning, then it was "East Texas Sticky" the rest of the day.

It started a slow rainstorm about 5:30 this morning and it's still going. The radar looks like it will be over soon. There haven't been any heavy downpours, so every drop is soaking in.:thumbsup:

I drove through it starting about Wichita Falls all the way to Quanah, There was some pretty darn hard rain on the way up to Hereford. Talked to the wife this morning around 6am and she described rain similar to what Jim reported. I guess it lost some steam as it moved South East.

My lease place in Leona it dropped 5 1/2inches yesterday,hope dirt still there

We ended up getting 4inches from 4pm to around 6pm today:thumbsup:

We got two inches of that, after the lightning kept shaking the house. So 6.5 inches total in the last week.

Fisherman's Park in Bastrop Texas needs a new name "Good Luck, Bad luck Park".
My bad luck - had a heart attack running there last year.
Homeless guy's good luck - he gets to keep the $70,000.00 he found in the park.

The wind damage Tuesday knocked the top part of the my 200 year old oak tree off. It fell on the cow pen. Another maintenance required delaying the paver project.
If you look closely at the part of the tree thats thats still standing you can see a face in shock (with a long nose).

Darn! That gate took a direct hit. I really hate to see old oaks damaged like that. I have several oaks that died in last year's drought and we didn't have it nearly as bad as most of the state. I truly believe post oaks are just trees lookin' for a reason to die. In my thin soils above caliche, it doesn't seem to take much to kill trees. They have a hard time adapting to changes in moisture. Trees in my yard where I water are dying or in stess. I sure wish I had red oaks, but I don't think they will grow in these thin soils.

The Dallas Morning News this morning says parts of the Dallas area had some pretty severe weather damage yesterday, including baseball sized hail. Apparently, the Lakewood area (east of downtown Dallas) was about the hardest hit. Fox4news this morning showed some of the damage, and they had one thing I hadn't seen before. They had a short video showing a dozen or more guys lined up on one of the greens at the Lakewood Country Club repairing divots in the green.

Another area that supposedly had hail was The Colony, right across the lake from us.

And here . . . well, we had one of those Texas 6" rains. In other words, little drops of water hit my windshield about 6" apart. If I hadn't been outside at the time, I never would have known we had any rain.

The wife say we have got just under 1" since I left last Tuesday. I've been stuck on this job because of rain two nights, but they need the rain here in West Texas so I guess somethings got to give. Should finish up here tonight and deadhead for Aurora, co:thumbsup:

BTW, the humidity out here has been great compared to what I left in Wise county

We have received right at 7 inches of rain in the last 10 days. But the ground was so dry, I was still able to mow this weekend without getting stuck in the low spots.

Brandi, I'd be jealous, but I know how much you need the rain to make up for the drought that lasted so long. We've seen rain so close we could smell it, but haven't had any significant rain in almost a week. I'll be dragging out my sprinklers today to keep my grass happy. Even though we haven't had lots of rain, the weather has been cooler than last year and we've had more rain also. All-in-all, it's been/being a very good year.

Yesterday being Father's Day, my daughter wanted to take us to dinner last night. She got me a nice new tackle bag also. Yesterday afternoon, my grandson and I cleaned my .22 rifle with scope, put together a tabletop shooting stand, and set up a spinner target. I took about 10 shots and let him shoot about 30 rounds. He did very well, especially for the first time shooting. He followed my safety instructions really well and shot in the 75% to 80% range. We had to cut the shooting short because there was a big cloud with thunder approaching. We cleaned the gun and put everything away just in time to watch the cloud go around us and the skies clear.:confused2:

Jim, that cloud that went around you gave us between one and two hundredths of an inch of rain.:laughing: I just finished mowing and was trying to decide whether to get the hoses and sprinklers out.

I've been gone almost a week and already getting complaints on the "tall" grass in my yard! I thought mowing before I left would buy mee some time, but the wife said she's had to mow it twice

I might be the reason for the heat ya'll have, I pull into Aurora CO., and they are experiencing record heat the past few days. 103* today, which as I'm sure you guy's have heard, doesnt help with the fire situation. All - in -all, I miss living up here though, the mountains are just spectacular. Here is a photo from the motel, just because.

Jinman, What great fun for you and the grandson. I think that teaching family to shoot and the love of firearms is some of the best quality time there is. I have taught both our boys, my wife, daughters in law, and friends gun safety and shooting. I'm looking forward to the grandbabies getting big enough to work with (oldest is 4). A good and accurate .22 maybe one of the best investments you can have in your gun rack.

Jinman, What great fun for you and the grandson. I think that teaching family to shoot and the love of firearms is some of the best quality time there is. I have taught both our boys, my wife, daughters in law, and friends gun safety and shooting.

The only problem with him enjoying it so much (like fishing) is he asks me every day (sometimes 8 or 10 times) if we can go shoot again. Now, he's asking me about the 12 ga shotgun. I have clay targets and a target thrower, but I'm not sure at just over 100 lb whether he'll be able to take the 12 ga kick. I may start him off with the 20 ga or see about getting a .410. I think .410s are great starter shotguns. I also see a gun safe in my future. $$$
