And in addition to the heat, we've had a small skunk in our back yard a couple of times at night in the last week. Sure have to be careful about letting the chihuahua out at night. The city animal control guy has some traps you can borrow at no cost; just a $50 deposit, but I just talked to him and they're all out right now. So now I'm trying to decide whether to buy my own.

Bird, You've practiced your marksmanship for a lot of years for situations such as this.

Or lemonade, margarita, pina colada, or possibly even an ice cold barley pop. :)

Or, better yet, an air conditioned cab tractor. Another reason to buy one is, West Nile virus, they just had their 1st fatality in Austin Tx. and all they would say is that the man "was in his fifties when people are more susceptable to these kinds of things" I'm saying Holy Cr*P, almost everyone I know on the board is about that age so....

So it get's the young'uns first?

Yeah, and I could handle that just fine, but here in town I'm afraid they'd take a dim view of that.

Bird, if you where closer I'd let you use mine. $50 deposit?, they wont come trap it for you?

I'd loan Bird my trap, but I'd charge the $50 deposit. It's not that I worry he won't bring it back. I just want to make sure he gets rid of the skunk before he does.:D On 2nd thought, maybe $50 isn't quite high enough.;)

Bird, I have the same set from TSC. I'm not sure what the smaller trap is used for, but I have it if I ever need it.

Jim, the skunk we've seen is small enough that it's gone through the chain link fence. So I just finished setting both traps, baited with sardines in soy oil.

We have the TSC set too. Check the door trigger, it might need a little adjustment.
We caught a coon in the big one last year and hadn't cabled the trap to anything. The coon rolled and rolled the trap from the inside
and we found it with the coon still in it about 70 feet away, down in the woods. he had ripped the handle guard off and bent some
parts but it was easy to fix. Now we cable it to a fence post and it is on duty tonight.

Bird.. If you can't shoot the skunk in town, are you going to use the wife's car to haul it to the skunk farm?

Ron, if I get a skunk in the trap, all I'm going to do is call for the animal control guy and watch from a respectable distance. I don't know whether he's allowed to shoot them or not.

With your bait you may get some neighborhood kittie's of a different color:)

Yes, we've had some feral cats in the area and when I used the city's trap before, that's what it was for, and I did trap 2 of them and gave them to the animal control guy. None of the neighbors with whom I am acquainted have a cat. It's either dogs or nothing.:D

Bird, I used to catch skunks with either dog food and teaspoon of honey, or dog food with one raw egg broken over the DF, works great! (with an occasional possum.)

108* on our porch yesterday, forecast for today is 108*. We usually run warmer in the summer and cooler in the winter than what the DFW area gets, so it will be interesting to see if we hit 110*.

BTW, have you guys been hearing about our N. Texas West Nile virus problem? getting pretty extreme this summer, 6 or 7 deaths so far I believe.

Yeah, I usually take the dog for a walk in the woods in a park early in the morning, and I was getting 3 or 4 mosquito bites nearly every day. I really hate to spray that stuff on me, but I finally started using Deep Woods Off each time we go for that walk.

Dennis,
Are you going to be mowing the chiropractor's yard this Sunday or are you still laid up?

On my TSC trap, the wire mesh up front near the trap door has larger openings than the rest of the trap. The last time I caught a 'coon, the little fellow about rubbed all the fur and some of his hide off his front feet/legs trying to reach out of the trap. He wasn't bleeding, but he sure looked like he was gonna have a case of sore paws. I suspect that after I let him go, he spent quite a bit of time licking his wounds.

At least he was trained not to go in a trap again but go straight for the corn.:D
We have found that most domestic cats learn to stay out after one night in a trap.

Sorry fo9r the double reply:confused:
I notice a lot of folks have that problem.

Sore, but much better, My pelvis was out of socket or alignment with my spine. My left leg was almost 1" longer than my right! I couldn't see it, but when the Doc popped it back in, my wife said "cool!" ??. Then he used a "TENS" unit on the muscle, great little contraption too!

That sounds great. Hope it holds for a while. With your type of work it is hard to avoid.
I've been "gimping" all week. Mine was caused this time by wrestling with big tree limbs from the storm last month, but sometimes there is no apparent reason, it just starts to hurt terribly. The hip area is prone to pain in about 80% of the population but it doesn't help to know that when there is no comfortable position.
Hip problems are like gut problems... depends on what the doctor wants to call it or what is popular at the time, since so many problems have the same symptoms. I gave up on chiropractors years ago.
There are simple tests you can do yourself though to determine if you have sciatica, piriformis, or some other form of hip problem and what type of exercise is best to help each. A few good videos on the net that might help, too.
I'm sure you have investigated many routes.
Ron
