I just wanted to write a note of thanks to the whole group here. I have been reading for the last nine months and posting for the last few. After much reading, (being able to search the archive of information on this forum is an incredible resource), much test driving, specification review, and some agonizing, I have decided which tractor to buy.
The John Deere 790 MFWD with FEL, cutter, box blade and post hole digger.
I started out looking at much smaller tractors, worked my way up to much larger tractors but finally came back to advice I read on this forum many times.
"Buy the tractor that will do what you need to do 95% of the time"
The 790 will do all I need to do 95% of the time and is inexpensive enough so that I can get the attachments I need to get the work done.
Also based on the advice I read here I test drove all the transmission types, I am good to go with a geared tractor, I think the fact that I rented geared tractors on two occasions and actually got to work them at my place made me comfortable that my decision was based on more than just a test drive.
Tommorrow I will start on getting final pricing and should be ready to purchase by the following weekend.
Thanks again to everyone for all your input, if there is any last words of advice on things to add at purchase, (I am already going to ask about getting hooks welded on the FEL bucket), please feel free to let me know.
You know now that I have finally made a decision I am really getting excited about taking delivery!! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Thanks again!
