A 20 to 25 ft chain with hooks on each end. A good Clevis, and pls don't use an adjustable wrench on you new tractor. I realize that some of these guys only have this as their tool kit, but if you are serious (based on your investment, I assume you are), get GOOD tools. They will last you a lifetime, and then your kids lives as well. NO OFFENSE MEANT TO THE ADJUSTABLE WRENCH CROWD OUT THERE, JUST MY OPINION. The grease gun and good grease is a must!. Pls don't wait to use it either! BobG in VA

Congrats on the new tractor! As others have already stated, hairpins & other pins & eclips are necessities - I would also keep a couple spare drawpins for the cutter. My minimal toolkit for out in the field would be my 4 lb. drilling hammer(short handle), a 12" or larger adjustable wrench, needlenose & slip-joint pliers, screwdrivers, a crowbar. I keep a major toolbox in my truck as I use my tractor commercially and still don't always have what I need in a particular situation. I would recommend a couple of other tools in your truck - a 1/2" drive set, especially an 1 1/4" socket and breaker handle for replacing drawpins in implements, and a good pipe wrench to go with it for that same purpose. If you do alot of cutting, you will bend and/or break drawpins and also they loosen-up and need retightening. My greasegun comes out of the truck every single day I run the tractor - I have the pistol grip style, and keep a case of grease cartridges. If you don't have compressed air at your property, a portable air tank with a blowgun will help keep the radiator clear - this is a must with cutting so much. Water doesn't work as well as air, but it would get you by. Be sure and watch your temp. gauge after a couple hours of cutting, use the blowgun from the engine side to blow back out the front of the radiator to get the most out. Wish you the best of luck !!

Thanks to all for the great advice. My laundry list of accessories is getting larger (please keep the ideas coming!)

Separately, as a newbie, I admit some of you all are scaring me a bit. An FEL subframe that came loose in 15 hrs? Stop cutting and blow out the radiator after a couple of hours? I know it ain't my wife's minivan, but is that sort of thing normal on any tractor ? I must have a lot to learn......

No need to be scared. You are being told what to look for, ie you are learning from our experience.

I am the one that had my FEL come loose at about 15hrs. My dealer told me it would happen and to look out for it. I just retorqued to 150 lb ft and have had no more problems. My dealer also told me about the overheating. He said 'you will get a feel for where the temp needle is under normal use, when it moves, clean out the screen. When that stops working clean the radiator.' I put a piece of tape on the gage and marked the normal temp (like after I mowed the first half hour). If it moves much off that mark, I clean something.

The reason you will overheat more than your wifes minivan is because of the seeds. At least thats the problem here. God made the seed so they fly in the air. Your tractor hits the weeds, liberating the seed. Your tractor then sucks them into the radiator. I dought the minivan sees many weeds on the street. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Give yourself a little time and you will be fine.

BamaRob, Definitely get a torque wrench, Craftsman are only around $60 bucks or so. Carefull not to drop it because then it goes out of calibration. I have had little trouble with my bolts so I suspect my dealer used lock tight and torqued them to specs. My dealer told me at the time of purchase of a guy that had done a lot of damage to his Cub Cadet/Mahindra/Mitsubishi and the CC rep told him to buy the guy a wrench and give it to him to preclude further castrophe!

Hi there KYColonel, not sure if that is short for Kentucky Colonel or not, Ft Campbell or Knox maybe?
Anyway you have been given some good advice in this thread. I have the Cub Cadet, Mitsubishi 23HP model, almost identical tractor to yours except for 30 HP Hydro. It is a tough machine which should last you well. You'll find that the Mahindra/Mitsubishi filters aren't very cheap. If you could get a set thrown in it would help at your changes. A good grease gun is a must, I only have a manual one and it takes care of my needs. A good set of wrenches should be all you need. If you find you 'really' need something special pick it up when you need it. On bolts loosening you'll find that some folks have a great deal of trouble with them and a lot of it has to do with the type of work they are doing, back hoe, lots of FEL, etc. If you can search back through threads on the Cub forum you should find more about these. A set of parts and maintenance manuals for your tractor are well worth the money as well. In case you didn't know, I'm quite sure your tractor is actually manufactured by Mitsubishi which made them for several years for Cub Cadet and also before that with other labels on them. Now they just happen to be red, with the Mahindra label. So parts shouldn't be a problem, just a little pricey. Let us know how you like it and give some more info into bio. We won't sell it to telemarketers..........honest!! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

MajMac392,

Thanks for the info. Interesting stuff as I did not know Cub Cadet carried these size machines. I have made several stops at THD and Tractor Supply to buy spare pins, clips,
grease tubes, etc so am having fun before the tractor even arrives (hopefully tomorrow!).

I gave more meat to the bio section. Not in the military but
their is a group in Kentucky (called Colonels) who do charitable work and so forth. You are lucky to be in Maine - a beautiful state.

Debian Linux is for wusses. Real men run Ubuntu. Or Slackware!

JUST TEASING!

Slack is for real men, I'll give you that. But Ubuntu? Please... Where would Ubuntu be without Debian? Ubuntu IS Debian with makeup and a wig. It's all Debian goodness underneath. Ubuntu is the distro that I recommend to newbies. All that Debian goodness without the sharp edges. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
