I loved Ken Hensley in Uriah Heep. First concert I went to. July morning my favorite song from them. I think this will be a tough year for our Heros..

Just a reminder that today is the anniversary of that day, Feb 3 1959 when Richie Valens, Buddy Holly, and the Big Bopper died in a plane crash.
I still enjoy listening to that music.... Dang I must be getting old.

We're all old! I enjoyed those guys as well. Ya know Waylon Jennings exchanged seats with the Big Bopper that night.......here's a great song by John Gorka about Mason City.....the city those guys flew out of......

Never met John Wetton, but always admired his work over that great career. He has quietly been very influential in the progressive rock world (whence the "prog" part of my screen name came).

Ken Hensley, however, I do know on a personal level. During the decade I worked for St. Louis Music (Ampeg, Crate, & Audio Centron equipment), he was our Artist Relations Manager. Really nice guy, and a very talented musician and songwriter.

I know he and John maintained their friendship over the years. They were close. I feel bad for him. He's lost more than one good friend lately.

So how about telling us a little bit about your musical career, GreenHairedGuy. :)

I'm here cause I thought this was a Buddy Holly related thread, wanted to see if there was any of his fans here besides me, guess there's a couple. I was thinking it was later this month those singers died, me being born in the 50s, the 50s&60s has most of my favorite singers, my play list shows it, most is in 50s-60s some in the 70s, some in the 80s-90s, very few in 2000s and or new songs that I like, in fact IMO most new songs are crap, and you can tell No Lady Gaga I said so.

Love youtube songs, some have pictures and video with them, cant get that on a CD..... here's one of my favorite BH song is>> It's so Easy,

Not much to tell, really. I'm a local hack. Studied trumpet (cornet, actually) in grade school and jr high school. Played it again in the university band in college. Taught myself to play bass guitar by watching my friend play guitar. Sat in my bedroom during my teenage years learning stuff that interested me, like Rush, Yes, Iron Maiden, and Talas. Played bass guitar professionally in the St. Louis area since 1982, mostly cover bands. Have done some studio work with various people over the years, mostly in the rock genre (one jazz guy, and one punk band, too). Since learning to play bass guitar, I have also taught myself to play guitar, drums, piano, organ, violin, viola, cello, double bass, trombone, recorder, and shakuhachi. I also sing.

I worked for 10 years at St. Louis Music in their electronics manufacturing division, where I had the opportunity to meet a great many artists. We built Crate, Ampeg, and Audio Centron products, and had a pretty cool list of endorsers. As noted before, Ken Hensley was our Artist Relations Director for many years. NAMM Shows (National Association of Music Merchants) were always a blast, as all manufacturers from all over the world get together twice a year to show off new products. Met a lot of artists at those shows, too. Some of our more notable Xmas party entertainment included Kip Winger (solo acoustic), Monte Montgomery, and Phil Keaggy.

I am currently playing bass guitar and cello in a local acoustic rock trio (with two other guitar players) called Happy Little Trees. I'm also trying to vomit out a bunch of original music projects that have been on the back burner for far too long. I have mostly completed a recording of modern electric funk on which I play all instruments (guitar, bass, drums, and organ), which should be released sometime in the next few months, pending me getting my home studio back together after our remodeling, so I can finish the mixing and mastering. I have a bunch of Baroque-style string quartets I've arranged from Antonio Soler's keyboard sonatas that I need to record as well. That should also be released sometime this year. Then, the big magnus opus ... a long-form progressive rock epic that will span several albums. I have the basic scratch tracks recorded for this, but still need to finish developing some parts. Hoping to get it finished and released before the end of the year, too.

Here's a few pics I could round up:
