Info from Dealer.

The Hydraulic system is completely separate, and it is 100% acceptable to fill with "pure" hydraulic oil.

HOWEVER... he says that the hybrid oil must be drained out first. Hrmf. I'm not sure how that makes sense, but I've posted the relevant question in the oils and lubricants forum. :)

I'm off home now to look accusingly at the tractor and re-design the FEL mounting bracket.

Makes sense to me. The Chinese fill the thing with used motor oil before loading it on the boat. It's not worth anything but a rust-preventative during storage and transit. Either the dealer didn't actually drain/flush/refill, or he did so and mistakenly filled it back up with that universal stuff intended for common sump machines. In yours, it's too thick for the hydraulics, and too thin for the gears.

It hurts me to say this, because I was really happy with the dealer... but he said on the phone that they buy the multipurpose oil in barrels and use it for tranny and hyd. They don't bother getting all the sorts that they could. Because I like to think the best of people, I'd like to think that this is because they know good owners will change the fluids soon after purchase anyway.
The Git in me would call them lazy.

Tomorrow I'll be cutting a new bracket for the FEL control valves so that they're mounted in a less ridiculous way, and I'll be draining the entire hydraulic system over the weekend and replacing it with hydraulic oil. It's going to be fun, messy and when I'm done I'll have some oil for quenching steel in :)

Sounds like you have a sensible plan, Nick. :) And that UTF stuff will make fine quenching oil. I use straight ATF myself, and always preheat it to about 140F before using it as a quenchant for tool steels.

Next Question: I've filled the system with petrol/gas to clean out the old rubbish... how many cycles/hours I should run it for before draining?

I don't know what "system" you filled, but drain it out fast - and don't start the engine or you could end up losing your investment (or worse).

1. Flush the gear boxes and differentials with kerosene (I've heard many Brits call it "paraffin"). Diesel fuel works too, but kero leaves less residue behind.
2. Kero or diesel for the hyraulics (including steering) too
3. Kero or diesel for the injection pump (it's small, but you need to flush out any residual metal shavings)
4. An approved commercial engine flush for the engine lubrication system (lots of metal shavings have been reported)
5. An approved commercial cooling system flush for the engine block and radiator (they're often badly rusted)
6. Inspect the sediment bowl for signs of a fouled fuel tank (diesel bugs are not uncommon). Flush/treat accordingly.

Follow the manufacturer's instructions for the #5 and #4. For #1/#2/#3, flush/drain/repeat until the kero comes out clean. I strain what's drained through cheesecloth so I can pour it back through again. For #1 and #2, you can start the engine. Drive the tractor around in figure 8s (steering) while exercising the hydraulics. A rough/unlevel patch of ground is best to splash the kero around inside the gear box housings. Drain/refill/repeat until it comes out clean.

If you're confident the dealer has done some of the above, just skip them.

Good to see another swedish Foton owner and user!
Last year we bought a Foton Europard 404 / TZ04D-404 (FEL), which now has almost 80 hours. And we're still happy users, and thinking of a backhoe as the next investment for our tractor.

I was searching various Fora for all my questions, like the swedish maskinisten.net, and at that time only found CHINESE TRACTOR WORLD FORUMS - Login that had a dedicated FOTON forum. I've spent most time there, but hope to also see FOTON & JINMA swedish users here too.

Regarding oil, here below an extract from what I earlier wrote in another forum.

We still have the the same oil from the delivery in the tractor, and it has been used down to -25?コC this winter without problems. The oil levels were somewhat low from delivery plus I've replaced one FEL cylinder, so I have filled up with the equivalent of Agrol Turbo Kombi, since we bought Statoil MultiWay 10W-30 instead. So the same oil goes into the engine, transmission and hydraulics containers. I might re-evaluate what oil to use in future, when performing the first service, maybe a dedicated engine oil as the only change.

We've asked about the delivery service and got the information that all oil in the tractor are replaced with Agrol Turbo Kombi 10W-30. I think that's an UTTO (Universal Tractor Transmission Oil) type and here are some cross reference links to other brands of similar oil products. (Even the diesel was replaced with a less smoke prone one).

This sentence in swedish tells that on a tractor of an older type up to 1989 model year, one oil type can be used everywhere in the tractor. However for newer tractors, that oil type cannot be used in the engine, but still be used for transmission and hydraulics.

Here's an Education site in Swedish on oil products with a test included. Do your exam here with geting a certificate of your knowledge in tribology.
